Greenwich Hospital recognized for patient safety

Greenwich Hospital was among hundreds nationwide recently recognized for excellence in patient safety by Healthgrades, a comprehensive database of ratings and comparisons for physicians, hospitals and health care providers.

Greenwich Hospital received the Patient Safety Excellence Award presented to the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide. The facilities recognized reported zero instances of foreign objects being left behind after a procedure. They also have strong safety records on hospital falls that result in hip fractures; collapsed lungs due to a procedure or surgery; pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital; and catheter-related bloodstream infections.

“This award reflects Greenwich Hospital’s culture of excellence and our ongoing commitment to provide high quality care in a safe environment,” said Diane Kelly, DPN, RN, the hospital’s president.

The Healthgrades award is Greenwich Hospital’s second patient safety commendation in recent months. Last year, Greenwich received an “A” grade as one of the safest hospitals in the nation, according to The Leapfrog Group, an independent national patient safety watchdog group.

Only three hospitals in Connecticut received the Healthgrades patient safety award. Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance using objective quality measures including clinical outcomes and patient safety, as well as patient experience.
