Greenwich Looking to Reconfigure GPD School Patrols for FY24
Due to budgetary concerns, the Town of Greenwich is looking to reconfigure the operations of the GPD school patrols. The current situation of having five officers each covering five schools on any given school day is costing the town just under $700k annually. First Selectman Fred Camillo has proposed the dedication of three officers each covering five schools which would cost just under $420k annually.

Navy Honors Sandra Wainwright, MD for Going Above and Beyond
Director of Greenwich Hospital’s Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Healing, Sandra Wainwright, MD was commended by the United States Navy this past Monday, January 30th, for the treatment of Navy recruiter John Meehan of Southbury, who was experiencing debilitating, “long” symptoms of COVID-19. Meehan presented Dr. Wainwright with her commendation, signed by U.S. Commanding Officer of the Naval Reserve Recruiting Command Captain Karen Muntean, for going “above and beyond” in her treatment of Meehan, who underwent 60 2.5-hour sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy five days a week. Severe Cold Weather Protocol in Effect through Sunday, February 5th
The severe cold weather protocol has been initiated to ensure adequate shelter for all during this latest bout of severe cold weather. The current protocol activation went into effect yesterday, Thursday, February 2nd, and will last through 12-noon on Sunday, February 5th. Anyone in need should call 2-1-1 to get connected to these services.
Foundations Laid for Eastern Greenwich Civic Center
According to the January 27th update from the Greenwich Department of Public Works on their Facebook Page, all foundation walls and footings have been installed at the site, and crews are progressing through under-slab utility installation. Construction is currently scheduled to be completed by the fall of this year.

2023 St. Patrick’s Parade Grand Marshal Named
The 2023 St. Patrick’s Parade Grand Marshal has officially been announced. Kevin McFadden will be the Grand Marshal of Greenwich’s 47th annual St. Patrick’s Parade. He will be installed on Saturday, March 4th, by the Greenwich Hibernian Association. The Parade will be held on Sunday, March 19th at 2pm.
Old Greenwich Association Honors Peter Uhry
This past Monday, January 30th, the Old Greenwich Association’s (OGA) annual meeting was a standing-room-only. The meeting room of the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire House was packed to honor Peter Uhry. A long-time volunteer of the organization, Uhry has served as both an OGA board member and three times as its president. Uhry even helped establish the award he received this week.

GHS Student-Athletes Signing Ceremony
This past Wednesday, February 1st, five Greenwich High School seniors were honored in a ceremony to sign their National Letters of Intent for their decision to participate in NCAA Division I sports next year. Those five athletes are Gianluca Bianchi, Track at Princeton University; Sean Cowie, football at Bryant University; Belle Bordier, Rowing at USC; Sophia Neitzell, Lacrosse at the US Naval Academy; and Whitaker Grover, Diving at Yale University.

Gov. Lamont Announced 2023 Proposal to Improve Gun Safety Laws
Earlier this week, Governor Ned Lamont announced the last set of proposals he will be introducing during this year’s legislative session. This set of proposals is focused on strengthening CT’s efforts to eliminate gun violence, with a particular focus on preventing suicides, accidents, and domestic violence. The proposals are as follows:
Requiring a ten-day waiting period before purchasing a firearm; Increasing education requirements for firearm licenses; Requiring safe storage regardless of who lives at a given residence; Improving the design safety standards for semiautomatic handguns; Making commission of a family violence crime or being a fugitive an automatic disqualifier for holding a pistol permit; Prohibiting the carrying of any loaded long gun in a vehicle; and Requiring trigger locks for all firearm purchases.
These proposals will be included as part of the governor’s package of priorities for this year’s legislative session which he will present to CT’s General Assembly next Wednesday, February 8th. He has previously announced two other sets of gun violence prevention proposals, the first is focused on eliminating community gun violence, and the second is on preventing mass shootings.
