Virginia Marullo, age 96, passed away peacefully at home on January 19, 2023. She was born on June 7, 1926 to Frank and Mary Santoro in Cos Cob, CT.
She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Ross Marullo, her two daughters, Marilyn Marullo and Judy Marullo Burbank, her three grandchildren, Scott Burbank, Joseph Marullo, Leah McVey (Michael) and one great granddaughter, Addison McVey. She was predeceased by her loving parents and all her siblings—Larry, Angeline, Mike, Caroline, Hallie, John, Sam, Louise, Jimmy, and Frank, Jr. Virginia was beloved by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, neighbors, and friends.
Virginia grew up in a lively house across from Bible Street Park. She was an unbeatable paddle tennis player, and she spent her summer days playing in the park with her younger siblings and friends. During the WWII years, “Ginny” loved her job at the Electrolux factory, later recommending her veteran husband who was hired on the spot. In her later years, she was a kindly presence with the cafeteria team at the Mews.
An adventurous Virginia would ride her bike around town, or take the bus to work and to shop on Greenwich Avenue. She was everyone’s emergency contact for school and all the cousins felt at home with their Aunt Virginia, their “second” mom. She loved getting her hair done every Friday in Port Chester, and her outgoing and fun personality was welcomed at the salon. She was the life of the party in her tour group to Italy, a trip that changed her life. Virginia was a great cook, and she credited her hot peppers to longevity. She graced many parties with her Italian wedding cookies, and everyone feasted on her delicious Italian bread. She was thrilled with her live Englebert Humperdinck concerts.
Virginia loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart. Until the very end, she called out repeatedly for Ross, the love of her life.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 11:30 AM, at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 399 North Street.
