Obituary: Anita McAllister

Anita McAllister

Anita Pierce McAllister of Norwalk, CT died peacefully at home on January 8 after suffering complications due to COPD and stroke.

Born on February 11, 1941 in Stamford, CT, Anita would go on to graduate from Stamford High School. She went on to meet her late husband of 45 years, Patrick J. McAllister and owned and operated McAllister Delivery Service, a courier service in Greenwich, CT for many years. Anita was also an accomplished floral designer due to her love of nature and immense talent. This lead her to have beautiful gardens at home that caught everyone’s eye that passed by. Later in life she went back to school to achieve a degree and became a medical assistant and worked for Stamford Health until her retirement.

In her leisure, Anita loved to keep up her gardens, a longtime passion, and was always adding to them. She was also an avid reader and one of her favorite pastimes was to take a crack at the Sunday Morning crossword puzzles, always with a hot cup of tea nearby. Some of her greatest joys were spending time with her grandchildren, Caitlin, Cole, Alexa Joy and James, Madeline and Hunter.

Anita is survived by her loving children, Aileen Vitti(Michael) of Stamford, Ryan P. McAllister (Julia Katherine) of Shelton, sister Mary Pierce of Massachusetts, brother Edward Pierce Jr. (Blasé) and nephew Dylan of Milford, CT.

She was predeceased by her husband Patrick J. McAllister, her parents Edward and Mary Pierce, and sons William and Kevin Smith.

The family would like to recognize her full-time caregiver Boni Shezi, who lovingly cared for and put our mother at ease. In these last two years Boni became a daughter and sister to us all.

A memorial service will be held in the Spring for Anita, a charismatic, tough, eternally beautiful, spitfire of a woman and her calm, cool, collected, polar opposite husband who passed in 2020, with services provided by Thomas M. Gallagher funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Anita or Patrick’s name to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org.

Services are under the care of Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home located at 104 Myrtle Ave. Stamford, CT 06902. To leave online condolences please visit Gallagherfuneralhome.com
