Gloria Bone-Foster, 78, passed away in Newport, Wales on December 7. Gloria was born to Albert and Jean Bone in Essex, England on May 28, 1944. Gloria completed her primary and secondary schooling in Essex, where she made life-long friends. In 1970, she married an American service member, James Foster, while he was stationed in England. They moved to the United States and settled in Greenwich, CT, near his family.
The best years of Gloria’s life were raising her two children among good friends and family in Greenwich. Gloria was a great chef and friend, and is fondly remembered for her big personality, love of a good laugh, and fun-loving hospitality. She opened her door to stray animals and a steady stream of friends, who enjoyed big laughs, delicious meals, flowing drinks, and a nice cup of English tea.
After moving to Malaga, Spain in the early 2000s, Gloria opened “Gloria’s Casablanca”, a popular village bar and cafe where patrons lined up for her Sunday prime rib dinner with roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. She enjoyed several years in Malaga, sharing her good food and cheer with new friends, before settling in Newport, Wales near her sister and extended family.
Gloria is survived by her sister Anne in Newport, Wales; her two children, Jason Bone in Connecticut and Rachel Foster in Oregon; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren in the United States; and her loving nieces and their families in Newport, Wales.
A family burial will be held in Wales. In memory of Gloria’s love for animals, please provide a loving home to an animal in need or consider donating to an animal rescue charity.
