Kristina Capretti, RN, of the Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Greenwich has joined the Board of Directors of the Susan D. Flynn Oncology Nursing Development Program, Inc., a local nonprofit that is playing a crucial role in developing the next generation of oncology nurses.

Frederick C. Flynn, Jr., the nonprofit’s founder and president, said Capretti was a valuable addition to the board. “Kristina has a vast amount of knowledge and clinical expertise in oncology nursing. She was instrumental in the creation and successful implementation of our oncology nursing fellowship program at Greenwich Hospital,” he said.

A nurse for 15 years, Capretti has been a part of the Flynn Fellowship program since its inception at Greenwich Hospital in 2014. Since then, the program has provided training to more than 260 aspiring oncology nurses at several leading hospitals.

“I have witnessed the invaluable experiences this program has given our newest generation of oncology nurses,” said Capretti, who is clinical program director for Smilow Greenwich and Smilow Long Ridge. “I look forward to further supporting the Flynn Fellowship program’s goals in stimulating career interest in oncology nursing.

Flynn founded the fellowship program in memory of his late wife, who received palliative care services at Greenwich Hospital during the final stages of her three-year battle with ovarian cancer.
