Stuff-A-Cruiser
This Saturday, December 17th, the Greenwich Police is hosting Stuff-A-Crusier. They will be in front of the Havemeyer Building at 290 Greenwich Avenue. Drop off new or unopened gifts to help local kids in need this Christmas. The toys will be sent to Community Centers, Inc. of Greenwich. If you can’t make it to this weekend’s event, a gift can be left in the GPD lobby at 11 Bruce Place.
Greenwich Fire Department Welcomes New Graduates
Earlier this week, the Greenwich Fire Department welcomed their newest Graduates from the CT Fire Academy who will continue their learning with the training division for 6 weeks before being assigned to an operational group.

Park Pass Fee Increase Proposed
Late last week, Parks & Recreation Director Joe Siciliano presented the 2023 proposed fee schedule to the Board of Selectmen. The proposed changes would make the cost of an annual park pass $40 before April 15th and $45 on or after April 15, an increase of $5. The child pass for ages 5 to 15 would also increase by $5, from $10 to $15, and the child accompaniment fee would go from $40 to $50.
Parks and recreation Holiday Photo Contest
Greenwich Parks and Recreation closed on December 15th and the winner will be announced December 21st.

3rd Phase of Tod’s Point Causeway Construction
The third phase of the Tod’s Point Causeway construction has begun this week. The Town is anticipating few disruptions to regular traffic flow. When pond-side work begins in early January, the causeway will be closed during weekdays. On weekends vehicles and cyclists will be able to use the causeway.

Nonprofit – Greenwich’s Coffee For Good Honored
Coffee for Good accepted the Community Impact Leader Award at the 2022 CRAzies Gala on December 5th, the first time this award has been received. Coffee for Good received this recognition for training and finding employment for people with developmental disabilities.
Nonprofit – New Local Nonprofit Hosting First Fundraiser
Flower Petals Adaptive Dance is a new non-profit in town, “providing a safe space for all actions, reactions, and feelings,” according to their website. They offer support in a community of dancers, parents, and volunteers. Freedom of expression and the beauty of creative movement are two of their core tenets. Many of the teachers at Flower Petals Adaptive Dance are Greenwich High School Kids, and they are holding their first fundraiser this Sunday, December 18th from 1pm to 4pm at The Greenwich Arts Council. Drop off your kids, ages 5 through 12 and while they enjoy a supervised dance party, crafts and (nut free) snacks, you enjoy some “me time” The cost is $20 per child, per hour. Payment is accepted at the door.

Greenwich Hospital Social Worker Honored
Greenwich Hospital’s Roni Lang, LCSW, was named 2022 Connecticut Social Worker of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers, Connecticut Chapter. Lang has worked as a clinical social worker for 50 years, providing therapy for older adults and their families for nearly two decades at Greenwich Hospital.

New Assistant Principal for Glenville School
Effective January 3rd, Cara Vitolo, who most recently served as the district’s special education preschool/elementary coordinator, will replace Barbara Brennan Oxer as assistant principal of Glenville School.
CT Association of Schools 2023 Assistant Principal of the Year
Western Middle School’s Suzanne Coyne has been named 2023 Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year by the Connecticut Association of Schools. Each year, a selection committee recognizes one assistant principal in each of the elementary, middle, and high school levels for this honor.

GHS Boys Soccer Team Honored
On Thursday, the Greenwich High School Boys Varsity Soccer Team were honored with a proclamation and presented with certificates from the Board of Selectmen for their win at the 2022 CIAC LL Championship Final vs. William Hall on November 19th.
Greenwich High School girls basketball team eager to make its mark in the FCIAC
For most of the past decade, the Greenwich High School girls basketball team has qualified for both the CIAC Class LL and FCIAC tournaments and it’s determined to experience postseason basketball once again, this winter.
Brunswick wrestling team flourishes at Avon Holiday Duals, Skiff Mountain Scuffle tournaments this Past weekend
Brunswick School split its wrestling team up to compete in two tournaments over the weekend and both squads successfully made their mark. Brunswick’s Varsity A team tested its skills at the Avon Holiday Duals at Avon Old Farms School and finished with a record of 3-1, improving their overall record on the young season to 4-1.
Greenwich captures CIAC Class LL Football Tournament title with decisive victory against Fairfield Prep in title matchup at Rentschler Field
From start to finish, Greenwich’s performance level in the CIAC Class LL Tournament was what champions are made of. Flourishing on both sides of the ball, the Cardinals soared to convincing victories over Hamden and Glastonbury in the tournament’s first two rounds and when they renewed their postseason rivalry with Fairfield Prep this past Saturday night they continued their dominance with a capital ‘D,’ as in defense.
Greenwich Academy senior Laetitia Cartellieri named NEPSAC Class A Field Hockey Player of the Year
The final game of Laetitia Cartellieri’s field hockey career for Greenwich Academy saw her register two clutch goals in a season-ending win against Taft School – a victory that gave GA the NEPSAC Class A Tournament championship.
Brunswick wrestling team pins Avon
Brunswick School’s wrestling team earned 10 wins by pinfall en route to registering a resounding 67-12 win over visiting Avon Old Farms School in a match held last Wednesday.

Qualifying for the FCIAC and Connecticut High School Girls Hockey Association tournaments are accomplishments the Greenwich High School girls ice hockey team is accustomed to, as it has competed in the postseason nearly every season since the program’s inception back in the winter of 2003.

Bump-outs are Out
At the Representative Town Meeting earlier this week, the bump-outs proposed for Greenwich Avenue were voted down, 114 to 72 with 12 abstaining. This vote overrules a decision made in September by P&Z to grant municipal improvement status to the bump-outs. Because of the RTM’s vote, the project can now no longer go forward in its current form. The Department of Public Works is now determining next steps for the project with the knowledge that any revised project must now reapply for grant funding money.
Greenwich RTM moves to Electronic Voting
This past Monday, December 12th Greenwich’s RTM voted to move to an electronic voting platform. Now votes will be tallied in just a few minutes allowing the RTM to move through its agenda more efficiently.

Meskers Appointed House Chair of Commerce Committee
Earlier this week, Speaker of the House Matt Ritter and Majority Leader Jason Rojas appointed State Representative Steve Meskers of Connecticut’s 150th district as House Chair of the Commerce Committee.
Tentative Labor Agreement with CT State Police Union NP1
Last Thursday, Governor Ned Lamont and the CT State Police Union NP1 announced that they have tentatively agreed to the terms of a new successor labor agreement. The agreement covers troopers, sergeants, and master sergeants and would be effective from backdating to July 1st, 2022, all the way through June 30th, 2026. The agreement also covers wages, benefits, and working conditions.
