Gloria Horwath

Gloria Strazza Horwath of Warwick, NY, formerly of Greenwich, CT went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 10 after suffering complications from a fall.

Gloria was born to Anthony and Josephine (Frigillo) Strazza on April 13, 1929, in the house built by her grandfather Rocco Strazza at 67 Byram Terrace Dr. in Greenwich, where she returned to live after her retirement until moving to live with her daughter in 2020. She graduated from Greenwich High School In 1946. Gloria completed her training in Cosmetology and worked as a hairdresser at Lanes at the top of Greenwich Ave. for many years.

In 1947, Gloria met Theodore Horwath of Queens, NY who was visiting relatives in Greenwich. It was love at first sight and after Ted returned from his Navy service, they married on September 10, 1949.

Ted predeceased her in 1979 and she is survived by her four children, Theodore (wife Bonnie and children Jennifer and Theodore), Michael (wife Joanne and sons Matthew, Michael, Benjamin and Sean), JoEllen Kelly (husband Timothy and children David, Jessica and Patrick) and Steven (wife Rachel and children Sara and Steven). She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren Ava, Elisha, Elena, Elan, Finley and Violet and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her sisters Rose Muzoleski, Margaret Carpenter and Adeline Docimo as well as her brothers Rocco, Anthony and Frank Strazza.

She enjoyed family gatherings and cooking for family get togethers as well as trips to the casinos, puzzles and her favorites Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Turner Classic Movies. Gloria loved her family dearly. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and her relationship with her brothers and sisters was cherished. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, colleague and friend. She touched the lives of so many people. She will truly be missed and will never, ever, be forgotten. As a woman of faith, Gloria wished to have a celebration of the immortality promised to all by Christ. She would love to be remembered with funny, strange, or silly stories that celebrate what was good and blessed in her life.

Friends may celebrate the life of Gloria Horwath at Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Road #3 in Greenwich, from 4-8pm, on Friday, Dec. 16.

There will be a funeral service held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17 at Sacred Heart Church, 95A Henry St., Greenwich, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greenwich.
