Obituary: Carla Wurst

Carla Wurst

We are saddened to announce that Carla Stich Wurst passed away on November 10 at the age of 90.

She was born and raised in Stamford, CT, and graduated from Stamford High School. She was a longtime resident of Greenwich. In the late 1990s she moved to Skidaway Island, Georgia, but always returned to Greenwich for the summers. Carla had great spunk, zest for life, opinions to share, questions to ask, and a heart of gold. She enjoyed many years of boating on Long Island Sound with family and friends. She was also an avid golfer, and an enthusiastic and competitive game player – card, board, court or lawn – Carla was always ready to play!

Above all, Carla loved spending time with her family. She was happiest when she and beloved husband, Bill, were together with their three sons, their wives, and her grand-children boating, celebrating holidays or birthdays, vacationing on Block Island, or just a casual visit. She and Bill were inseparable. She also maintained a very close relationship with her three sons and their wives. She especially adored her grand-children and stayed close to them as they grew to become young men and women, building a special bond that they’ll carry with them forever.

She also cherished her friends – many of whom were life-long friends. Whether a life-long friend, or a new friend, she treasured each one. As a longtime member of the Mianus River Boat & Yacht Club, she leaves behind a large circle of friends and members of this wonderful club that she and Bill considered their home-away-from home.

Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all those who she touched, including her husband of 67 years, Bill Wurst; her sister Nancy Fisher; her three sons Chris (Pam) Wurst of Cos Cob, Dr. Tod (Carlyn) Wurst of Tacoma, WA, & Brad (Leslie) Wurst of Southport, NC; and four grandchildren Dr. Hallie Wurst, Henry Wurst, Ben (Sydney) Wurst and Dan Wurst. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and great friends. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Carl and Jenny Stich, her brother Richard Stich, and sister Dorothy Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in Carla’s memory. A celebration of Carla’s life will be held in the summer, 2023. Details will be announced at a future date.
