Obituary: Charlotte Oponski

Charlotte Oponski

It is a damp, drizzly November in our souls as we mourn the passing of Charlotte Jean Oponski (nee Meli) in the early morning hours of November 28 in Colorado. She is the beloved wife of Roman J. Oponski (Broomfield, Colorado) of 44 years, adored sibling to Vincent Jr., Charles (Edith), and Rose Meli, and sister-in-law to Mania Silbereisen. She also leaves behind a niece, 4 nephews and numerous cousins. Charlotte was predeceased by nephews, Charles Meli Jr. and Michael Silbereisen. Born in Greenwich on June 12, 1943, to the late Vincent and Margaret Meli.

Charlotte worked as an assistant librarian for Greenwich Public Schools and at Fawcett Publications before relocating to Colorado after wedding the love of her life. Artistically talented and creative, she loved the beauty of Colorado and enjoyed showing it off to friends and family. Always dressed in cutting edge fashion, Charlotte enjoyed attending plays and concerts (especially Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and Neil Diamond), viewing movies, the gift of laughter, having her husband read fine literature to her, dining out and cooking for friends and family. Charlotte was a wonderful sister; always generous and obliging to the needs of others. She will truly be missed and loved eternally.

At a date to be determined, Charlotte’s ashes will be spread in Colorado at one of her most cherished sites.
