Obituary: Robert Shaw Bridges, Jr.

Robert Shaw Bridges, Jr.

With profound sadness we announce the death of Robert Shaw Bridges, Jr. of Vero Beach, Florida and formerly of Riverside, CT. Born in Boston to R. Shaw Bridges and Beryl C. McMillan, Rob graduated from Deerfield Academy and Kenyon College, where he earned All-America honors as a diver and member of the national championship swim team. Rob was a loyal and dedicated member of the Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, as well as a long term Board Member of the DKE Club of New York City.

Rob had a long and successful career in investment management. He was a former Managing Director at Fiduciary Trust and Managing Director & Senior Investment Advisor at Wilmington Trust. Colleagues and clients relied on his knowledge and steadfast guidance in planning for the future and navigating difficult markets.

After discovering his love for music as a young boy chorister, Rob remained a devoted member of Christ Church Greenwich where he continued singing and serving the church as an adult, both in the choirs and on the Vestry. Rob strongly believed in serving others, packing and serving meals to those in need, as well as through his service on the Board of the FPWA in New York City.

In his free time, Rob enjoyed golfing, hiking, skiing, vacationing in Maine, and cheering on his sons at swim meets and water polo matches. Family was of utmost importance to Rob, and he loved planning large gatherings in exciting new places. He married his college sweetheart, Kelly in 1988, and took great pride in the many accomplishments of his two sons, Shaw (Lea) and Austin (Jacquey). He was a loving son to R. Shaw (Anne) and Beryl, big brother to Peggy (Steve), John (Dominique), and Caroline, uncle to several nieces and nephews, as well as a devoted godfather to Elinor Hannum Klein.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Rob’s memory to the Christ Church Music Program or AFSP.
