Margaret “Peg” Hroziencik left this earth on November 30, at age 83, as her body had succumbed to a long and hard-fought struggle with dementia. By her side was her husband of 62 years, Rudy Hroziencik, who tirelessly ensured Peg was cared for, loved and safe throughout their decades together. Peg also leaves behind two daughters, Susan Hroziencik Hinckley, her husband, Tim and Jill Hroziencik and husband, Frank Sardo; along with her four grandchildren, Jeffrey Hinckley, Bradley Hinckley, Caterina Sardo and Nicolai Sardo.
Peg was born and raised in Stamford, CT. The second daughter of John and Janet Schofield. Growing up, Peg cherished her times with her dad working on cars and fixing things in their garage. It was there that she met Rudy, who accompanied a friend to the Schofield’s home to help work on a vehicle. Their love for each other began in 1959 and continues even in death.
Married in 1960, Peg and Rudy enjoyed a life together in Greenwich, CT, spending much of their time boating on Long Island Sound, socializing with friends and volunteering in the community that they were very much a part of. Peg was an officer with the Southwest Connecticut Girl Scout Council while her children were young, a member and officer of the Mianus River Boat and Yacht club for four decades and a weekly volunteer with community service organizations such as Neighbor to Neighbor and At Home Greenwich. Peg’s volunteer efforts occurred during her career at Greenwich Research Associates and later at G.E. Capital as well as throughout her retirement. In more recent years, Peg and Rudy shared their time between Greenwich and Englewood, Florida, enjoying warmer winter months and a community of friends at Tangerine Woods.
Friends celebrated the life of Peg Hroziencik at Castiglione Funeral Home, Greenwich, on Monday, Dec. 5. There will be a funeral service held at 10am on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the Castiglione Funeral Home with burial to follow at Fairfield Memorial Park in Stamford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Peg’s honor to Neighbor to Neighbor of Greenwich, ntngreenwich.org or to an organization of their choice.
