Obituary: Edward Rübel

25/9/42 – 10/11/22

Edward Alexander Rübel, Ed has succumbed to pulmonary fibrosis after a courageous battle. He faced this challenge with intelligence, determination and heart as he did with everything in life.

Ed was born to the late Peter A. and Elizabeth H. Rubel in New York City and grew up in Greenwich, CT. He was an avid outdoorsman, having spent his teen years at school in Switzerland and college at Dartmouth. He was always happy in the mountains.

Ed was the adored husband of Earline for 54 years; the proud dad to Timothy A. Rubel of San Francisco, CA and Laredo, TX and James A. Rubel of Harwich. He was also the beloved big brother to Barbara A. Pratley of Greenwich, CT and Susan A. and Elizabeth A. Rubel of Springfield, VT. He loved spending time with his many nephews and cousins, both here and in Switzerland, and especially with his dear cousin, Ashley H. Rehner of Salem, MA. Ed held his many friends close to his heart. If you knew him, you loved him, and he loved you.

Ed was also in the Navy for 2 years, and therefore, would never take Earline on a cruise no matter how much she hounded him. Following Dartmouth, Ed attended the Wharton School and spent his career in banking, first with Bankers Trust in New York, London, and Zurich, and 38 years at the Cape Cod Five, where he touched so many lives in the business community. Concerned for those less fortunate, he was on the board of the Harwich Ecumenical Council for the Homeless. Ed was committed to conservation and was treasurer for the Harwich Conservation Trust for many years.

In memory of this wonderful man, please hug those you love. Arrangements for Ed will be private, but memorial donations may be made in his honor to Harwich Conservation Trust, 947 MA – 28, Harwich, MA 02645, USA.
