Joan Barry Carhart, longtime resident of Old Greenwich, passed away on November 2, 2022 at Greenwich Hospital.
Born in New York City, she was daughter of Edward Barry and Sophia Barry. She graduated Fordham University in 1954, where she met her husband, Robert Carhart. She was employed at Baldwin Technologies for many years.
Joan was a parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena in Riverside. She loved reading, British comedies on television, travel, both professional and personal, and most of all, her family. She will be remembered for her keen observations, lively wit and her interest and devotion to her extended family and her friends.
She is survived by daughters Diane Carhart (John Ankenbrock), Susan Humphrey (James Humphrey), her grandchildren Robert Humphrey, Jill Gallagher, Terence Bancel, Ashleigh Bancel, Sophia Senter and Sara Senter, and great-grandchildren Jack Gallagher, Isla Gallagher, and Lila Bancel. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Robert, and her daughter Caroll Carhart Bancel (David Bancel). She leaves behind her extended family and many dear friends, among them Emma Muri of Old Greenwich.
Funeral services will be private.
