Greenwich Hospital cancer program receives national reaccreditation

The Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Greenwich was awarded a full three-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Cancer and the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), both quality programs of the American College of Surgeons.

“This national seal of approval directly benefits our patients. They have peace of mind knowing they are receiving high-quality, multidisciplinary cancer care that puts the needs of patients and their families at the forefront,” said Diane Kelly, DNP, Greenwich Hospital’s president. “This results in improved patient outcomes.”

To earn accreditation from the Commission on Cancer, a program must meet 34 quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care. The NAPBC accreditation is the hallmark of excellence for Breast Centers. The Commission on Cancer and the NAPBC held a joint survey at Greenwich Hospital in June.

The Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Greenwich has a multidisciplinary team of specialists provide prevention, early diagnosis, cancer staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, nutrition services, psycho-social support, life-long follow-up for recurrent disease, survivorship programs, genetic counseling and clinical trials. The center maintains a cancer registry and contributes data to the National Cancer Database.
