Lora Siefert

On October 6, Lora S. Siefert died in Stamford, CT. She was 90 years old.

Lora is survived by her children: Gregg (Patti) Siefert (NJ), Robb (Lisa) Siefert (NJ) and Beth (Dave) Crimmins (CT); as well as eight grandchildren: Heather, Melanie, Tyler, Gabriella, Brooke, Shelby, Victoria and Elyse; and two great-grandchildren, Aayla and Elowyn. She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick E. Siefert, M.D.; her brothers Morton and Harvey Silverman; her parents Jack and Bertha Silverman; and her grandson, Jason Crimmins.

Lora was born in 1932 in New Britain, CT. She graduated from New Britain High School and went on to attend Vassar College, graduating in 1953 with a BA in English. Lora married Frederick E. Siefert M.D. in 1956.

Lora worked as a Program Analyst for legal and other purposes at the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) in New York City from 1953 – 1960 before moving to Greenwich in 1960 when her husband joined Greenwich Hospital to complete his medical training. She quickly joined the Greenwich League of Women Voters (LWV) and was an active member and officer. When her LWV activities and experience stimulated her interest in government and land use planning, she ran for and was elected to the town’s legislative body, the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting where she represented Riverside from 1972-1976. She then became an alternate member of the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission and in 1980 was appointed a full member and reappointments led to her serving on the Commission for 22 years, in the role of secretary for many of them until she retired in 2002.

In retirement she devoted her time to travel with her husband, and family endeavors including raising four German Shepherd dogs at once. After her husband’s death in 2011 she took on responsibility as business manager of the Old Greenwich Professional Building, a medical building built by her husband and his partners. That same year she moved to Edgehill, a continuing care retirement community in Stamford where she continued her interest in government, serving as Chairman of the Resident Council’s Legislation Committee.

Lora studied piano for many years and especially enjoyed playing forehand duets. Other hobbies included playing bridge, reading, and listening to classical music.

Funeral services and burial are private.

Donations in her honor may be made to: Doctors Without Borders, Greenwich Hospital or a local charity for persons in need.
