POLICE & FIRE
Police Officer of the Month
The Police Officer of the Month was announced earlier this week. Officer Alen Arrington has been named for his excellent police work identifying suspects in a violent robbery investigation from June of this year in which one of the victims was run over by a vehicle and had a firearm pointed at them. Through Arrington’s investigative expertise, he identified the suspects involved in the crime, tied them to the robbery, and identified their locations. Fully extraditable arrest warrants were obtained for both subjects, primarily due to the information that Officer Arrington was able to develop.

Cos Cob firefighters celebrate 100 years.

Cos Cob Fire Company 100 Year Anniversary
Earlier this month, the Cos Cob Fire Company celebrated its 100 year anniversary. The Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company is a volunteer organization under the Greenwich Fire Department. The event began with a parade of firetrucks that started at St. Catherine’s Church which then moved west along East Putnam Avenue, finally finishing behind the firehouse. There was a live band, food and demonstrations.

Breaking ground at the new Eastern Greenwich Civic Center

Ground Breaking at the New Eastern Greenwich Civic Center
Earlier this month, Town Officials broke ground at the site of what is to become the new Eastern Greenwich Civic Center; the Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center. The new facility will be 35,000 sq.ft. and is named after the donation from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. The new facility has a planned completion date in 2024 and will include a full-size multi-use gymnasium with roll-out spectator seating, an 8,100 square foot multi-use event space and three 1,000 square foot activity rooms. There also will be indoor pickleball courts.

Katherine Cotter Gent Elected President of the Greenwich Bar Association for 2022-2023
Late last week, Cummings & Lockwood announced Katherine Cotter Gent, an Associate in the firm’s Private Clients Group and based in the Greenwich office, has been selected to serve as the next President of the Greenwich Bar Association for the 2022-2023 term.

Katie DeLuca Leaving Greenwich P&Z
Town Director of Planning & Zoning Katie DeLuca announced she will be leaving her position on the Town’s Planning and Zoning Committee, as well as Town Government in general, at the close of 2022. DeLuca began work as Director of P&Z in 2014, succeeding Diane Fox, prior to that she served as Deputy Director of P&Z for eight years, and worked in the Town’s Planning Department since 1999.

Michael Skakel Seeks Return of Audiotapes Used in Martha Moxley Trial
Michael Skakel returned to court last week looking to recover evidence used to convict him of Martha Moxley’s death in 2002. In 2020 he was not retried and the case against him was dropped. Skakel and his legal team have requested the return of a number of audiotapes – created in 1997 for a memoir that Skakel was considering – used in his 2002 trial. The motion put forth by Skakel and his attorney was dismissed by Judge Gary White.

New Exhibit at the Downing Yudain Gallery
There is a new show of work by artists Frances Ashforth and Susan Williams: W A T E R.
W A T E R is both the muse of Ashforth and Williams, as well as the title of their new show featured at The Barn at the Downing Yudain Gallery running until November 18th. This exhibition features 30 works of each artist, examining their reaction to water. Ashforth packs a crisp, powerful, graphic punch; and Williams executes a 19th century plein air approach, married with bold colors. The Downing Yudain Gallery is a private gallery located in Long Ridge Village in Stamford and is open October 21st from 4-6pm, October 28th from 4-6pm, November 2nd from 4-6pm, and November 10th from 4-6pm; otherwise the gallery is open by appointment. YMCA new scoreboard

YMCA of Greenwich Unveils New State-Of-The-Art Scoreboard
Earlier this week the YMCA of Greenwich unveiled its new 34 inch scoreboard. The new scoreboard was sponsored by Cheribundi, leader in all-natural sports nutrition. Located in their natatorium, the new board fully integrates with the Omega Timing System. The new scoreboard will display results and scores for the Y’s swim, water polo, and dive events in full-color LED display with a total of 631,800 LED pixels.

Multimillion-Dollar Renovations for Hyatt Regency Greenwich
Earlier this month, an investment fund managed by Trinity Fund Advisors LLC, an affiliate of Trinity Real Estate Investments LLC (Trinity), announced the acquisition of Hyatt Regency Greenwich. Trinity’s capital improvement plan describes a multi million-dollar renovation of several spaces in the hotel.

SCHOOLS
North Mianus School Celebrates National Day of the Girl
Earlier this month, North Mianus School celebrated National Day of the Girl by bringing a group from Girls4Tech to work with 40 fifth-grade girls. Girls4Tech was founded in 2014 by Susan Warner, a former North Mianus parent who explained that Girls4Tech is a STEM education program developed to get girls excited about STEM careers.

Greenwich High comes back to edge FCIAC field hockey rival Staples on fourth quarter goal by Klara Mueffelmann
Entering this last game against formidable FCIAC foe Staples, Greenwich High School’s field hockey team had a solid record of 6-2-0-1, with two of those losses coming by just one goal against conference opponents Ridgefield and New Canaan.

Greenwich boys golf team defeats Staples, finishes the regular season undefeated
Greenwich High School’s boys golf team completed an undefeated season in standout style Monday against Staples at Longshore Golf Club. The Cardinals capped a 15-0 regular season by defeating Staples, 141-157, at Longshore.

In the midst of a winning season, Greenwich Academy’s volleyball team looked to add another victory to its ledger when formidable foe Hotchkiss School came to town on Saturday afternoon for a NEPSAC showdown.

The West Coast, particularly, California, has some of the premier high school water polo teams in the nation, but there are a pair of programs in Connecticut with the ability to compete in the sport at a national level.

Another impressive offensive performance by Klara Mueffelmann paced the Greenwich High School field hockey team to another victory. Mueffelmann scored four goals, leading the Cardinals to a 4-1 win over Trumbull in an FCIAC game held at Cardinal Stadium on Saturday.

Pink was the color of choice for Greenwich Academy’s field hockey team on Saturday against Kent School, as members of coach Jamie Brower’s squad donned pink shirts and socks in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The defending FCIAC and CIAC Class LL tournament champion Cardinals moved their record to a perfect 9-0 with a well-earned 3-1 triumph against visiting Fairfield Warde in an FCIAC match held on Thursday.

The Round Hill Association Candidate Debate
Earlier this week, the Round Hill Association (RHA) held its candidate debate. RHA president John Conte posed questions to the candidates. Candidates for State Representative in the149th district were incumbent Kimberly Fiorello and Rachel Khanna. The district includes parts of Greenwich and Stamford. The State Senate in the 36th district candidates were incumbent Ryan Fazio and Trevor Crow. The 36th district includes Greenwich and portions of Stamford and New Canaan.

OUT OF TOWN
Drug Take Back Event October 29th in Stamford
The Stamford Police Department is hosting a drug take back event on October 29th from 10am to 2pm at Stamford Police headquarters, 725 Bedford St. This is a free, anonymous and environmentally safe way to dispose of unwanted or used medications. Any prescription drug, over-the-counter drug like Aspirin or Tylenol, or pet medication, can be thrown away. No liquids, creams or needles will be accepted.
