Judith A. Piorkowski, known as Judy, died peacefully at home under a short hospice care on October 2, 2022. She was 81 years old. Judy was born on March 2, 1941 in Greenwich and graduated from St. Mary High School.
Judy grew up in the Fourth Ward in Greenwich and chose to raise her own family in her childhood home which she loved. She was very proud of the neighborhood and made many friends there throughout the years. Judy was an executive secretary for most of her career and worked at Greenwich Hospital for 25 years prior to her retirement.
Judy enjoyed making cross stich samplers which she framed and displayed. Also a knitter, she made scarves, sweaters, and afghans. Judy also knitted many shawls for Greenwich Hospital cancer patients to use while receiving treatment. Everyone loved her Christmas Eve lasagna, M&M cookies, and lemon cake.
Judy is survived by her daughter Maureen Piorkowski of CT, her cherished grandkids Tyler Piorkowski of CT and Emma Piorkowski of CA, her sister Lee Lopez and husband Genaro of TX, and in-laws including Johanna Tole of FL, Tommy and Donna Piorkowski of NC, Patty O’Hanlon of CT, and Anne and Bill Sisson of FL. Judy is also survived by many nieces and nephews scattered across the country, and her grandchildren’s mother and former daughter-in-law, Tammy Nelson of CA.
Judy was predeceased most recently by her husband Walter (2020) and son Michael (2021), as well as her parents Jennie and George Tole, brother Dennis Tole, parents-in-law Genevieve and Leo Piorkowski, and brother-in-law Leo Piorkowski.
Judy’s family and friends would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Judy’s devoted caregiver Olga, whose care and compassion over the past eight months allowed Judy to remain in the home she loved until the day she died.
Visitation was held Friday, October 7, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich. A prayer service was held at 11:30 a.m. and interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 399 North Street, Greenwich.
