Richard (Rich) F. Kordas Sr. of Greenwich, CT passed from this earthly life on Friday, September 16, at the age of 82.
Rich is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia Cody Kordas. They were married in Greenwich at St. Mary’s Church. Their relationship served as an example of unsurpassed love and compassion. Their children are: Richard F. Kordas Jr. and his wife Monica, Jeffrey P. Kordas and his wife Sheila, Jennifer Kordas Gorman and her husband Shawn. Rich had 6 grandchildren that he loved very much: Sam, Makayla, Colby, Jake, Abigail and Grace. Rich has three surviving siblings: Robert, Karol and David.
Rich is predeceased by his parents Frank and Julia Kordas and his brother Frank Kordas Jr.
Born and raised in Greenwich, Rich was employed by Greenwich Hospital for 31 years as a Zone Mechanic. Rich was a former member of the Volunteer Hose and Chemical Company of the Greenwich Fire Department. He could always be found listening to the Police scanner even after his volunteer days were over.
After retiring, Rich loved working in the yard and fixing up the house. Once the grandkids came along he took on a new title as Pop pop. He enjoyed every opportunity he got to be with his family. He loved watching the kids’ ball games and even recently he was still going to watch his son Rich’s softball games.
Rich was a quiet presence but he was loved by all who met him. His impact was evident in the last weeks of his life by the number of people that came to see him.
Rich was also a proud member of the Social Seniors at St. Catherines. He made so many new friends there and loved spending time with them.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church on Greenwich Avenue on Wednesday, September 21 at 10am. Rich’s burial will be private.
