
Dr. Walter F. Bloes (“Wally”), 62, of Stamford, CT, and Jermyn, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 8 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born June 16, 1960, he is the son of the late Dr. Walter S. and Judith Wright Bloes, Jermyn, PA. He was the loving husband of 14 years to Charesa Brittain.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he graduated in 1978 from The Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville, NJ. He matriculated to Tufts University earning a degree in Biology in 1982. He later graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1987. He did his dental surgical residency at Albert Einstein and Montefiore Hospitals in New York, NY. He opened a private practice in oral surgery in Greenwich, CT where he practiced for over 25 years, and was on surgical staff at both Greenwich and Stamford Hospitals. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and served as President of the Greenwich Dental Society.
Wally was an avid sailor and spent his free time at Old Greenwich Yacht Club on his sailboat, Ericor. He traveled extensively with his wife around the globe and especially enjoyed their days on Cape Cod and Nantucket. He loved dogs and was most content when his English Bulldog was by his side. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich, CT, and participated in the choir there. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of the Free Masons, 32nd degree.
He is survived by his beloved wife Charesa Brittain and two daughters, Corey Bloes and fiancée Ben Browne of North Andover, MA, and Erika Bloes of Riverside, CT; and by his three sisters, Lisa Tomaine, Amy Henderson and Suzy Tierney and their husbands, all of Pennsylvania. He also has many nieces and nephews who will deeply miss him.
A memorial service will be held on October 1 at 11am, at the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale, 20 N. Church St, Carbondale, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Yale University Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.
