The Greenwich Fire Department held a ceremony today at the Central Fire Station to swear in 6 new firefighters and promote 2 current firefighters to lieutenant.
The department has recently seen retirements remove over 200 years of expertise and experience from the ranks but were able to secure spots in the 15 week Connecticut Fire Academy recruit program starting August 29.
The new class of GFD recruits includes 3 current town volunteer firefighters Leighton White, Nicholas Cesarini, and Brian Kelly as well as Kevin Proe from Watertown, Patrick Sexton of Ridgefield, and Brian Mahany of New York City.
The two firefighters promoted to lieutenant included Dustin Holt, a 14-year veteran and Daniel Byrne, a 11-year veteran of the department.
Over 100 people were in attendance including distinguished guests: First Selectman Camillo, State representatives Meskers and Aurora, and State Senator Fazio.
The Greenwich fire department thanks the town leadership for guidance and the BET and RTM for funding to promote and replenish the ranks of the department to continue to serve the constituents of Greenwich.
