Peter Louis Polidoro, Jr., 68, of Cos Cob, CT, passed away on July 25, 2022 after a year-long battle with cancer.
Son to the late Peter Louis Polidoro and Venice Polidoro, Peter, or Pete, or Bud, as he was known to many, grew up in the Scarsdale/Yonkers area of New York, in a loving and lively home filled constantly with five siblings, extended family, many dear friends and always plenty of food. He moved to Boston to begin his education and finished at Manhattan College. Soon thereafter, he met and married Hope Amster and began his career as an engineer and his roles as a husband and father. He worked tirelessly to build and improve their homes, as the family started off in Stamford and then moved to the North Mianus area of Greenwich. Peter resided in North Mianus, Old Greenwich, and then Cos Cob, where he eventually found his ideal final home project, a house he worked on until just weeks before his strength succumbed to his illness. Peter’s eye for detail led to many of his projects taking longer than expected, but the results were always impressive and unique.
Peter’s official career was as a mechanical engineer, working with unmanned aircrafts for many decades as a loyal employee of Northrop Grumman and later Sikorsky. He gave the same dedication to his kids’ science fair projects as he gave to military-grade aircrafts, often with even more innovative collaboration.
Peter had many lifelong hobbies he shared with family and friends, and some new interests as he got older. A beautiful skier, Bud was known as Top Dog on the mountain, and you could often find him on the chairlift wearing jeans even well into the 1990s. He loved laughing with his friends, whether it be around a card table or on the softball field. Bud loved to be out on the water, for many years at the family home on Candlewood Lake, and more recently, taking trips out on the Sound. He also had a lifelong passion for cars and bikes, and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help with theirs. He loved to mountain bike and spent many family road trips teaching the kids to bike and camp. He took up dancing in recent years, and loved challenging himself to learn this new skill and meet lovely friends.
Peter is survived by his children, Jessica Dassori (Andrew), Zachary Polidoro (Devon) and Emily Polidoro (Christian Holmes); granddaughters, Eliza and Zoe Dassori; his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Hope Polidoro; his sister, Lynn Savoris (Steven); brother, Roger Polidoro (Gwynn); and their children; and brother, Stephen Polidoro (Pamela Rockley). Preceding him in his death were his parents and dear brother, Victor Polidoro.
A Memorial Service in Celebration of Peter’s Life was held on Thursday, July 28 at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
