Carlos Amarillo

Carlos A. Amarillo 92, a resident of Greenwich, passed away peacefully on April 18, at Greenwich Hospital.

Carlos was born on April 3, 1930 in Machetá, Cundinamarca, Colombia S. A. the son of the late Vidal and Elicea Amarillo. He served in the Colombian military, Bogotá Police department, and in the 37th Infantry Presidential Guard Battalion prior to emigrating with his family to Greenwich in 1961.

Carlos’ love of the outdoors made him an exceptional estate (property) manager for several estates, including the Seabury House, formally located on Round Hill Road.

His favorite past times were gardening and being with family sharing dinners while imparting many stories of his life.

Carlos was a kind and patient gentleman who never complained, his quiet nature and humility was endearing to all who met him. We were blessed to have him in our lives, and he will forever be missed.

Carlos was also a proud member of The Knights of Columbus for over 40 years, the Red Men Home Association in Greenwich and proudly served as an usher for St. Mary’s church.

Carlos is survived by the love of his life, of over 70 years Alicia Amarillo, his children Edgar Amarillo, Jairo Amarillo, Teresa Bauer (Michael), and Gloria Krouch (Richard), his sisters Anita Amarillo, Carmen Melillo, Candelaria Amarillo, and brother Quintiliano Amarillo. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Carlos is predeceased by his son Carlos E. Amarillo and his siblings Teresa Zamfino and Gabriel Amarillo.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, April 28 at St. Mary’s Church in Greenwich. Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Greenwich.

The family wishes to thank the Smilow Cancer Hospital teams (New Haven and Greenwich) as well as the Greenwich Hospital ICU Doctors and Nurses who cared for him.
