Obituary: John Judson

John Winthrop Judson, 70, a lifelong resident of Greenwich, passed away unexpectedly on April 25.

John was the son of the late Winthrop Comey Judson and Elizabeth Ritch Harvey. He attended Greenwich Country Day School and Suffield Academy. He graduated from Hamilton College in 1973 where he met his wife, Marjory Oppenheimer. They were married in New York City in 1977.

John worked in finance at Chase Manhattan Bank and The First Boston Corporation, where he channeled his competitive spirit into investment banking. In 1979, John and Marjory moved to Greenwich, CT where they raised their four children: Nicholas, Mackenzie, Katie, and Travis. Upon leaving the investment banking world in 2002, he studied at the New York Botanical Garden and began a second career in landscape design.

He was a lifelong member of Greenwich Country Club where for many years he was an avid golfer and introduced his children to many sports and activities. In his retirement, he was most often found working in his home garden, spending time with his Labrador Retriever, Benny, or displaying his sharp wit and love for eggs benedict at GCC brunch.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his four children: Nicholas, Mackenzie and his fiance Andrea, Katie, Travis and his wife Ashley; and his grandson Rory Hume Judson, whom he adored.

There will be no funeral or memorial service as per his wishes. John was always a dog lover, so in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be addressed to Adopt-a-Dog, PO Box 11135 Greenwich, CT 06831 or online at www.adopt-a-dog.org
