On Sunday, May 1, the Junior League of Greenwich (JLG) is joining with facilitating partners the Greenwich Police Department, Pedal Greenwich, and River Bicycles to offer a “Cycle Safety Academy” to provide a free, fun educational bike rodeo for kids and teens to encourage biking and bike safety in our community.
Bring your bikes and helmets and get excited to participate in 4 Safety Stations, which include bike and helmet safety checks; signs, signals, and road safety; a skills obstacles course; and a mock roadway course. There will also be free reflectors, giveaways, games, and fun! Bikes and helmets will also be available for use during the event.
“We are pleased to host our first Cycle Safety Academy to help educate children on how to keep safe on the road,” said Karen Richard, JLG President. “Biking is a fun and healthy activity for youth which fosters independence. Our goal is for participants to learn essential tips and techniques for bike safety and enjoy practicing their skills on a safe protected course.”
The Cycle Safety Academy will be a drop off event held at 4 Horseneck Lane in Greenwich. Sessions will be grouped by age:
● Grades 1-3: 9:00 AM-10:30 AM
● Grades 4-6: 9:30 AM-11:00 AM
● Grades 7-9: 10:00 AM-11:30 AM
● Grades 10+: 10:30 AM-12:30 PM
