Obituary: Polyvios Vintiadis

Polyvios Vintiadis

Polyvios Constantine Vintiadis was born in Port Said, Egypt, on Dec. 10, 1935, and passed away in Greenwich on March 31 surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Vintiadis earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering at the American University in Beirut in Lebanon and a master’s degree in Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. Upon graduation, he was hired by Arthur D. Little, Cambridge. His twenty years of service to this company shaped his character and demeanor, both during his employment there, and in the subsequent years of his life. Because he was multilingual, he was assigned to several projects in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. During his time in Cambridge, he met his future wife, Regina Hancock Vintiadis, who was living and working there. His initial assignment outside of the USA was in Belgium, where he was sent to help reinvigorate Arthur D. Little’s Brussels office. While living in Brussels, his daughter Sara was born. At this time, business opportunities in the Middle East were expanding, particularly after the recent oil crisis. Mr. Vintiadis was tasked with managing these opportunities for Arthur D. Little, and moved his family to Athens, Greece, where his mother and brother were living. During this time, his son Jason was born and the family lived in Athens for several years.

In 1981, after twenty years of service to Arthur D. Little and after building many strong relationships in the Middle East, Mr. Vintiadis accepted an opportunity to be involved in finance and became a partner at Morgans, Waterfall, Vintiadis & Company, Inc. in New York City, where he worked until he officially retired in 2019, though he continued to be associated with the firm in an advisory position for several years.

Mr. Vintiadis also served on the boards of a number of companies, including Trizec in Toronto, Ontario, and Thermo Electron in Waltham, Mass. He acted as a trustee for the Taft School in Watertown, CT, and Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt., both of which his children attended. He also served on the board of the College Year in Athens, an overseas education program in Greece for college students.

Mr. Vintiadis spent much of his free time with family and friends in Klosters, Switzerland and Paros, Greece. He was known for his wit, great sense of humor, and contagious laugh.

Mr. Vintiadis is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Regina Hancock Vintiadis; his brother Megaklis Vintiadis; two children, Jason Hancock Vintiadis and Sara Vintiadis McCall; two children-in-law, Jonathan Christopher McCall, Jr. and Kelly Shanahan Vintiadis; and six grandchildren, Alexander Polyvios McCall, Coalter Barroll McCall, Zoe Rhodanthe McCall, Jason Holden Vintiadis, Charlie Polyvios Vintiadis, and Marina Kane Vintiadis.

A memorial service is scheduled on Saturday, April 30 at 10 a.m. at Christ Church located at 254 E Putnam Ave., Greenwich.
