3 Greenwich Middle School Students Among Finalists in MatCounts Competition
Central Middle School’s Sohan Javeri, Western Middle School’s Rex Lu, and Eastern Middle School’s Annabel Wu were among the top 10 finalists in the recent Fairfield MathCounts competition, and have qualified for the state competition in Hartford.
2 Western Middle School Students Awarded for Entries in the 2022 Connecticut PTA Reflections Arts Program
Western Middle School seventh-graders Gabriela Aliaga and Blake Natale were awarded for their entries in the 2022 Connecticut PTA Reflections Arts Program. This year’s theme was “I will change the world by…” Gabriela’s art “Bittersweet Tears,” won first place in the middle school visual arts category. Blake’s poem “Perspective,” won third place in the middle school literature category.
Local Leader Honored with Greenwich Library’s Peterson Business Award
Chuck Royce of Greenwich investment firm Royce & Associates was honored as the recipient of Greenwich Library’s Peterson Business Award. The award was presented at the 2022 Peterson Business Award Dinner benefitting the Greenwich Library. The event raised $630,000 to support the Library.
Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County, Receive $436M Gift from MacKenzie Scott
Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County (Habitat CFC), along with Habitat for Humanity International, and 83 U.S. Habitat affiliate organizations, recently received $436 million in unrestricted giving from American author and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. Of that, Habitat CFC received $5 million. This transformational donation will substantially help further Habitat CFC’s vision of a world where everyone has equitable access to a decent and affordable place to call home.
Missing Girl Found Safe
The 17-year-old girl who was reported missing was found safe Monday a few hours following the release of a silver alert.

Greenwich Police Department Silver Alert vs Amber Alert
There are two ways police departments can make the public aware of a missing person: AMBER or Silver Alerts.
Silver Alert: In CT is for those missing under 18 years old, between 18 and 65 years old with mental health issues, or someone over 65 years old. Silver Alerts are broadcast via radio, television, lottery distributors, and electronic highway signs through the Emergency Alert System (EAS).
Amber Alert: Must meet federal criteria and can only be triggered by state police. Amber Alerts are only for children 17 years or younger, police must believe an abduction has occurred and the child must be at risk of serious injury or death The AMBER Alert information is immediately broadcast to all radio and television stations across the state through the Emergency Alert System (EAS).
If there is an active AMBER or Silver Alert and you see the missing person, or have information about the person’s whereabouts, please contact the GPD immediately. Currently, there are no active AMBER or Silver Alerts issued from the Town of Greenwich.
First Flashing Yellow Arrow in CT
Greenwich Public Works unveiled the first flashing yellow arrows on traffic lights in Connecticut. The flashing yellow arrows are on Arch Street. The flashing yellow arrow is for a dedicated left-turn lane at a signalized intersection. A flashing yellow arrow means YIELD to oncoming traffic and then proceed with caution.
Cos Cob Fire Police Patrol Receives Gift from Greenwich Lions Club
The Greenwich Lions Club is in the process of distributing their annual allocations, part of which was given to the CCFPP. Because the CCFPP is an all volunteer fire company operating under the structure of the Greenwich Fire Department, they rely on donations to support their annual budget.

Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich 2022 Champion of Youth is Don Palmer
The Champion of Youth is recognized for having made a significant contribution of time and talent to the members and mission of the Club. Don Palmer is this year’s recipient having joined Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich in 1992 as the Aquatics Director. He was quickly promoted to positions of greater responsibility, and now serves as Vice President of Programs & Youth Development.
Roving Gang of Youths on Bicycles In and Around Greenwich
According to several reports and comments on social media there is a roving gang of youths on bicycles riding dangerously in and around Greenwich, mocking and taunting pedestrians and cars alike, and causing traffic. Greenwich Eagle Scout Candidate Builds Cat Beds and Agility Equipment for Dogs at Animal Control
Gianluca Bianchi of GHS class of 2023 and member of Troop 35 out of Glenville decided to create beds and agility equipment for the dogs and cats at Greenwich Animal Control. With the help of about 15 members of Troop 35 Bianchi designed PVC cat beds for the many kittens and cats who find their way to the care of Animal Control. Bianchi also designed a large collapsible A-frame exercise ramp and an adjustable hanging hoop for dogs.

Greenwich Department of Human Services Logo Contest
Students ages 5-19 in the Town of Greenwich have been invited to submit an original logo design for the Greenwich Department of Human Services. The logo may be used in all media – including online, print, on merchandise and other visual collateral. League of Women Voters Student Essay Contest
This year, students in grades 8 through 12 who either live in or attend school in Greenwich are encouraged to enter the League of Women Voters Student Essay Contest. The entry deadline is April 3.
