Greenwich Board of Selectmen Approve Outdoor Dining for 2022
Last week, the Greenwich Board of Selectmen approved the use of outdoor dining in town from April 15 to Nov. 20 on Thursday. This summer will be the third for outdoor dining in Greenwich.
Greenwich Scouts Visit Greenwich Police
Greenwich Scouts from North Mianus visited the Greenwich Police Department this past Monday. Scouts got to meet some of our officers as well as tour the Department Headquarters.

Law enforcement authorities or government officials will never contact members of the public by telephone to demand any form of payment, or to request personal or sensitive information. Volunteer Firefighters Rescue A Great Horned Owl
This past Monday afternoon, two members of the Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company and one member of Glenville Volunteer Fire Company rescued a female great horned owl that was caught in a fishing line above the South Stanwich reservoir.
Joey B’s in Cos Cob Best Chili in CT
This January Joey B’s was named “Best Chili in Connecticut” by Eat This, Not That, who compiled a nationwide list ranking restaurants in every state based on Yelp reviews. Joey B’s chili was also featured on IHeartRadio, its website last month.
Emily Fedorko Foundation Donates to Tod’s Point Sailing School
Continuing their mission for boating and water sport safety, the Emily Catherine Fedorko Foundation (ECFF) has announced that it will be donating $5,000 to the Tod’s Point Sailing School. The donation will go towards the purchase of life vests for the students to use.

Two Western Middle School Students Honored in Arts Program
Western Middle School seventh graders Gabriela Njenji Aliaga and Blake Natale were honored at the Connecticut PTA Reflections Arts Program, having been nominated by the WMS PTA. Aliaga was a first place winner in the visual arts category with her artwork titled “Bittersweet Tears”. Natale won third place in the literature category with his poem titled “Perspective”.
Greenwich Parks and Recreation Updates Playground
A new playground is in store at Loughlin Avenue. The current playground will be closed through 5/16/22 for construction.
Managing Greenwich’s Goose Population
The Greenwich Conservation Commission is using a three-part approach to manage our resident Canada Goose population. That three part approach includes stabilizing the population, hazing (any action that will make the environment unpleasant) geese on certain high-use and/or environmentally-sensitive properties, and educating residents about problems associated with feeding geese.
Greenwich Police Introduce New Hybrid Patrol Car
The new hybrid vehicle has been engaged in patrol work for the past few weeks. There will be four hybrid patrol cars in total joining the GPD’s fleet this year. GPD is receiving inquiries from other departments in Connecticut on what the hybrid cars offer.
Scouting Food Drive a Huge Success
The Greenwich Council of Boy Scouts of America teamed up with the Knights of Columbus and Greenwich Police last weekend for their annual food drive. They collected 3,900 pounds of food and pantry items as well as $900 in donations for Neighbor to Neighbor. Since the pandemic, Neighbor to Neighbor has been serving more than 500 families who face food challenges every week.

Greenwich RTM Approves Funding For CMS and Civic Center Increases
Money for emergency repairs at Central Middle School, and more funding for the new Eastern Greenwich Civic Center passed the RTM this past Monday night. The RTM approved $1.611 million for Central’s repairs and an additional $4.04 million for the new civic center construction.
Real estate in Greenwich backcountry ‘holds its value’ thanks to ‘influx of New Yorkers’ during COVID
Planned funding for projects at three Greenwich schools has moved ahead to next steps in their budget processes. Funding for construction projects for three schools received the go-head from the BET’s Budget Committee. The Committee approved additional funding for a new Central Middle School, as well as previously proposed $1.5 million each for the Old Greenwich School and Julian Curtiss School projects.
Senator Ryan Fazio Calls for Intense Reforms
State Senator Ryan Fazio spoke before the Retired Men’s Association about the faults of Connecticut lying at the feet of poor performances by the state’s elected officials. “It’s almost as if in Connecticut the state government was doing everything possible in its power to reduce economic opportunity,” said Fazio, a first-year Republican member of the state Senate.
Lamont Looks to A Future After COVID
In a talk earlier this week, Lamont said his main priority is to get Connecticut’s economy growing and the state moving. Lamont is focused beyond COVID and on getting people back to work, saying that for the first time Connecticut has more jobs than people looking for work. He also spoke about providing free training programs for Connecticut residents looking for jobs.
Greenwich Raise Money for Cancer Patients by Wearing PJ’s
Students at many schools in town recently took part in PJ Day, getting to wear pajamas to class while raising money for cancer patients. 15 year old survivor of leukemia, Sophie Lenschow organized the event. PJ Day raised $11,565 to help kids battling cancer.
