Playground at Loughlin Ave Temporarily Closed
Parks and Recreation has announced that the playground at Loughlin Avenue Park is going to be replaced. The playground will be closed beginning 2/28/22 through 5/16/22 for construction.

Greenwich in Bloom
In 2021, Greenwich Parks and Recreation planted over 36,000 bulbs throughout Greenwich. The first blooms will be here soon, meaning spring is on its way.

First Selectman Fred Camillo Honors Cheryl Dunson with Proclamation
First Selectman Fred Camillo presented retiring Greenwich Tree Conservancy president Cheryl Dunson with a Certificate of Special Recognition for her 15 years of service.

Openings Still Available for GPD’s Citizen’s Police Academy
There are openings available for Greenwich Police Department’s Spring 2022 Citizen’s Police Academy. Sign up to learn about your Greenwich Police Department. Residents will have the opportunity to meet their officers in a non-law enforcement setting.

Greenwich Rallies for Ukraine
This past Tuesday, Greenwich Resident and 2017 Miss Connecticut Olga Litvinenko, originally from Ukraine organized a rally outside of Town Hall in support of Ukraine. A crowd of almost 200 gathered outside Town Hall. Greenwich and Connecticut elected officials spoke, urging residents to do what they can to help.

Mask Optional Moves to Include Buses
Greenwich Schools announced that, effective immediately, it would no longer require face masks on school buses or vans operated by public or private school systems.

BOE Approves New State-Mandated Elective
The Board of Education voted Thursday to approve a new state-mandated “African-American/Black and Puerto Rican/Latino Studies” course at Greenwich High School. It is not mandatory for kids to take this elective, it is only mandatory for schools to offer it.

BOE Fails to Codify Title IX in Greenwich
All boards of education in Connecticut are required by law to adopt a policy compliant with Title IX. The 4-4 vote stopped the policy from being adopted, possibly opening up Greenwich Schools to lawsuits.

Masks Optional at Greenwich Libraries
As of this past Tuesday, March 1st, masks are now optional Greenwich Libraries’ main branch, Bryam branch, and Cos Cob branch. Masking and proof of vaccination or negative PCR test within 72 hours prior to an event is still in place at the main branch’s Berkley Theater

BET Approves Funds For Central Middle School Repairs
This past Tuesday, the Greenwich BET approved $1.611 million to fund temporary repairs for Central Middle School. The board voted 11-0 to approve the funds. One BET member was absent.

Greenwich Hospital is COVID Free
As of Friday, February 25th there are zero COVID-19 cases being treated at Greenwich Hospital.

Aquarion Offering Upcycled Rain Barrels
As part of a new water conservation initiative, Aquarion is offering Greenwich Residents upcycled rain barrels. Residents can place orders for rain barrels online now, and pick them up May 14 at Town Hall. Each barrel costs $75.

New Community Group Seeks Limitations on Use of Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers
Quiet Yards Greenwich, a group created by residents Elizabeth Dempsey and Jane Brash, is trying to solve what it says is a community-wide problem of excessive noise and pollution from gas-powered blowers.

Last Thursday, First Selectman Fred Camillo proclaimed Feb. 24 as Rare Disease Awareness Day in Greenwich during an event at Town Hall, featuring several speakers from local rare disease organizations.

Asset Management Firm Looks to Expand to Greenwich
Hudson Bay Capital, a leading asset management firm, will be expanding operations to Greenwich.The firm intends to create approximately 40 jobs for Connecticut.

Greenwich Art Teach Receives Art Educator Award
On Monday, February 28th, Greenwich Public Schools announced that Le Ann Hinkle, Western Middle School art teacher, will be receiving the 2022 Eastern Region Middle Level Art Educator award for the exemplary contributions, service, and achievements of an outstanding National Art Education Association member.

Greenwich Food Matters Challenge
The Town of Greenwich, in partnership with Waste Free Greenwich and the Center for EcoTechnology, is challenging local businesses to reduce food waste through prevention, rescue and recycling by participating in the Greenwich Food Matters Challenge. The Town of Greenwich Department of Public Works has created a new interactive projects map. To learn about any major improvement projects or construction around town see the projects work on the Town of Greenwich website.

Scouting for Food
Greenwich Council of Boy Scouts of America is hosting their annual food drive for Neighbor to Neighbor on Saturday, March 5th. It’s a drive-thru to be held in front of the Greenwich Public Safety Complex, 11 Bruce Place.
