LWV Greenwich Announces Annual Student Essay Contest

The League of Women Voters of Greenwich and affiliate High School Clubs announce Third Annual Student Essay Contest. This year, students in grades 8 to 12 who either live or go to school in Greenwich are encouraged to enter. Students are asked to write an essay of 600-800 words that answers one of the following prompt questions:

Option 1: Volume Two of The Words That Made Us by Akhil Reed Amar – How should author Akhil Reed Amar open the second volume in his trilogy about our ongoing Constitutional conversation, The Words That Made Us Equal: 1840-1920?

Option 2: Voting Rights – What do we do next to strengthen voting rights and ensure free and fair elections?

Option 3: Elections Matter in Greenwich – Why do elections matter in Greenwich?

Judges will not see the names of the contributors. A panel of LWV Greenwich members will review the essays.

Students will submit their essays via the LWV Greenwich website. Winners will be presented with their awards on Wednesday, May 2 during the LWV Greenwich Annual Dinner at the Riverside Yacht Club. A top essay for each prompt option will be named, with awards presented at the dinner. One paper will be chosen from the top three winning essays for the $1000 Grand Prize.
