Bernard J. Tedesco, 83, a lifelong resident of Port Chester, NY and Greenwich, CT died Sept. 16 surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 31, 1937 in Port Chester to the late John and Mary Basso Tedesco. He was raised and educated in Port Chester graduating from Port Chester High School. He was married April 26, 1959 to Ann Straface at Saint Gregory the Great in Harrison, NY. Mr. Tedesco, a successful barber for over 60 years, was the proud owner of Benford Barber Shop in Greenwich. At the time of his death he was still working, as he had never officially retired. He was a devoted and well known parishioner of the Corpus Christi Church in Port Chester. He was also an esteemed member of the Barber Association. Ben loved going to work every day and thrived off of talking with his customers. A testament to his personality, he attracted famous customers over the years. Admired by many, he earned a number of affectionate nicknames such as Mr. T, Stitchie, and Beansie. Ben was most famous for his iconic handlebar mustache that he had for most of his life. Ben had a love of life, work, and above all, family.
Mr. Tedesco is survived by his beloved wife Ann Tedesco of Port Chester, NY, his son John Tedesco and his wife Julie of Airmont, NY., daughters Laura DeLaurentis of Port Chester, NY and Bernadette Salvatore and husband Joseph of Stamford, CT., grandchildren, Jamie Arena, Jessica Tedesco, Nicholas Tedesco, Alexandra Salvatore, Carissa Basciano, Samantha DeLaurentis, and Taylor Salvatore, great grandchildren, Sophia, Joey, Aubree, Jack, Mia and Francesca. He was also predeceased by brother Vincent Tedesco.
Visitation was Sunday, Sept. 19 at Craft Memorial Home. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Sept. 20 at Parish of Saint John Bosco (Corpus Christi), Port Chester, NY. Interment was private. Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Tedesco may be made to the Parish of Saint John Bosco (Corpus Christi) at 136 South Regent St. Port Chester, NY 10573.
