Two Democrats: Campaign Updates

John Blankley:

John Blankley, the democrat who is a petition candidate for the 36th district State Senate seat, has made a strong final campaign push this past week as he continues fundraising and meeting with candidates around the district.

He participated in a lively debate hosted by the League of Women Voters on Friday, August 6. The final debate between Blankley, republican candidate Ryan Fazio, and democratic candidate Alexis Gervanter was Thursday, August 12.

He continues to spread his message of nonpartisan problem solving around the 36th district, which includes Greenwich, New Canaan, and northern Stamford. He focused on explaining to voters the experience in business and politics that he would bring to Hartford and his unique solution to congestion and pollution in Connecticut. Blankley sees port development as the most effective way to ease shipping and get large trucks off the roads as well as create jobs and stimulate Connecticut’s economy by bringing new companies in.

Blankley and his campaign also finished creating two mailers this week that residents should keep an eye out for. One will go out to unaffiliated voters in the region and the other will go to all 36th district voters explaining his infrastructure plan.

Alexis Gevanter:

Support continues to come in for Alexis Gevanter (D) as the race for the 36th District State Senate seat nears its conclusion.

The race continued with a debate held by the Round Hill Association on August 13th between Gevanter and her two opponents, Ryan Fazio and John Blankley.

On Thursday, August 12th, the executive board of the Stamford Professional Fire Fighters Association endorsed Gevanter.

“CT fire fighters and their families desperately need presumptive workers compensation coverage for occupational cancer. Most states offer this protection to their firefighters but sadly CT does not,” said Paul Anderson, president of the association. “Your vow to champion this important legislation, as well as your support of collective bargaining and binding arbitration, have earned you our support.“

On Wednesday, August 11th, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters endorsed Gevanter saying they were impressed with her understanding of issues and environmental priorities for the district.

“Who we elect to this seat will directly affect our legislature’s capacity to tackle climate change,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “We need someone whose values reflect the public’s concerns for our environment and will work to pass common-sense policies that will protect our state.”

Last Thursday, August 5th, Gevanter received an endorsement from Governor Chris Murphy.

“She’s got a work ethic that’s exceptional. Nobody is gonna out-work her if she gets elected,” said Murphy. “You’ve got a unique opportunity to elect a really phenomenal public servant.”

After his endorsement, Murphy continued supporting Gevanter by remoting in on Zoom and phone banking with her campaign from Washington D.C.
