Work Zone 1 Will Take Place On Oval Avenue Between Lake Drive 1 and Terrace Avenue

Town of Greenwich Department of Public Works, Sewer  Division, is scheduled to start the Old Greenwich Common Force Main Replacement Project this Monday, August 16. Construction will be located near the Riverside Train Station Parking Lot entrance off of Oval Avenue and then continue on Oval Avenue, to Summit Road and conclude in front of the Old Greenwich Pump Station on West End Avenue.

There are six work zone sections comprised in this project, starting from the west and progressing east. Work Zone 1 is the first area under construction — this phase of the project will commence on  Monday, August 16. Starting this Monday, temporary road closures will take place on Oval Avenue,  between lake Drive 1 and Terrace Avenue from 7am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. Depending on weather and unforeseen conditions, Work Zone 1 is anticipated to be completed in approximately three to four weeks. Department of Public Works recommends residents give themselves a little extra time when traveling, and stay vigilant for signage and detours posted. For the safety of the workers, please stay alert, slow down, and select alternative routes. Follow

Due to the crucial infrastructure of the Old Greenwich Common Force Main and a consent decree issued by the Department of Justice, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Connecticut  Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, this is an essential project that will improve the longevity and reliability of the most critical sewer force main in the Town of Greenwich’s sewer system. The segment of the Old Greenwich Common Force Main for this project carries wastewater under pressure from the Old Greenwich Pumping Station – Greenwich’s largest sewer pump station.

The anticipated completion date of all six work zone sections is December 2021. Department of  Public Works strives to provide reliable service to the Town and implement important maintenance projects that protect the environment.
