The need for blood is critical amid a serious shortage
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.
Millions of patients look to the American Red Cross for the blood they need: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. And right now, the American Red Cross is experiencing a severe shortage.
To address this critical need, Stanwich Church is sponsoring a Blood Drive on August 30, from 9 am to 5 pm on its campus at 202 Taconic Road in Greenwich.
“Stanwich is eager to help our community’s need for life-saving blood. But this need has also touched close to home: We have a two-year-old in our congregation who is being treated for brain cancer. His family’s request: Pray and donate blood. And that’s what we’re encouraging everyone to do,” said Rev. Dr. Nathan Hart, Stanwich’s senior pastor.
According to the Red Cross’ guidelines for donors, anyone over 17 is eligible to donate; there is no upper age limit. Donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative, and B negative.
“The short time it takes to donate can mean life to a patient with a serious medical condition. We urge eligible donors to join us in the selfless act of giving blood,” Rev. Hart said.
