Water Main Repair Work to Cause Traffic Delays in Central Greenwich

Work to repair an overnight water main break on Arch Street in the area of Exit 3 of I-95 will cause traffic delays on Tuesday, July 6.

Aquarion Water Co. reported the break of a 12-inch main about 1:15 a.m. Saturday, July 3. Emergency work to repair the main is being done by Aquarion’s contractor, Penna Construction. When that work is completed, steel plates will be put in place.

Repaving of the roadway will not occur until Tuesday, July 6 when asphalt plants reopen after the holiday weekend. The schedule for repaving the entire intersection has yet to be determined.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to expect delays.

Here is the information sheet for Monday’s fireworks from the Town of Greenwich:
MO
NDAY, JULY 5, 2021 The Fireworks at Greenwich Point will start at approximately 9:10 p.m. We are providing the following information for the Greenwich Point Fireworks Displays for your information and assistance: ALL SPECTATORS ARE STRONGLY URGED TO BRING A WORKING FLASHLIGHT

  • Normal rules for access to Greenwich Point will be in effect. Valid Park Passes for 2021 will be required of residents all day, and single entry pass and single entry parking passes will be required of non-seasonal pass holders until 5:00 p.m. After 5:00 p.m., non-seasonal pass holders will only need a single entry parking pass. Tickets must be shown at the gate.
  • Please note that Greenwich Point will be closed when parking has reached its capacity or 8:00 p.m., whichever comes first. This also means you will not be allowed to drop-off or pick-up passengers and will not be allowed to access the marina area once the Point is closed. Be sure you have everything you need before coming to the Point. The Point will still be open to walkers, joggers and bicyclists under normal regulations.
  • Parking in Greenwich Point will be under the direction of Police Officers. Parking for vehicles with handicap permits will be provided in the area near the South Concession Stand. Overflow parking will be directed to the Clambake Parking Area. Boaters will be assisted to the marina area.
  • NO Open Flame Candles, Sparklers, Chinese Fire Lanterns, Bomb Bags, Sky Lanterns, Snappers or any type of fireworks will be permitted in the Park. Cooking in Greenwich Point Park is allowed ONLY at Town Grills. (Sec. 7-26). NO glassware is allowed within 200 feet of the beach. (Sec. 7-50).
  • Bicycles should be equipped with lights and reflectors. Bikers may need to walk their bikes through the causeway. Police will establish a walker/biker lane on the causeway to exit the Point after the Show. Portable lighting will be in place at important locations throughout the Park.
  • A Police Command Post will be set-up near the main entrance gate. There will be an area for lost parents/children located at the GEMS field service unit near the South Concession Stand. GEMS will be on site for first aid coverage. They will have an ambulance on site; a command post will be located near the South Concession. Paramedics will patrol the grounds to assist the public.
  • The fireworks will be shot from the bluff area, past the South Concession Stand. Some of the area near the shooting spot will be restricted. People are welcome to walk the Point, but there will be a detour near the shooting area, which will go up to Founder’s Rock and will be enforced. You will not be permitted to walk near the shooting area on the day of either show. The view from anywhere in the Park, particularly on main beach and in the picnic area by the South Concession Stand, will be outstanding. The Beach Concession will close during the shows and will not reopen. Restrooms, including temporary facilities, will be available.
  • Greenwich Point Park will close immediately after the Fireworks Display. Please cooperate with the Police to provide a quick and orderly exit for all.
  • In the event of inclement weather, call the Recreation Weather Hotline at 203-861-6100.
  • Enjoy the Show.

Annual Paving Program to Commence Week of July 5

Town of Greenwich’s Highway Division Scheduled to Pave at Least 67 Roads This Summer

Summer is officially here and the Town of Greenwich’s Annual Paving Program anticipates to start the week of July 5. This year at least 67 roads are planned to be paved. Working east to west, the project will start in Old Greenwich and finish in Byram.

Depending on multiple factors, including weather, the paving program is projected to be completed in September. To learn more, including which roads will be paved, please click HERE. Be sure to stay vigilant for signage and detours posted by Town of Greenwich’s Highway Division. For the safety of the workers, please stay alert, slow down, and select alternative routes. Follow @GreenwichPublicWorks on social media for the most recent updates.

The project will be conducted in two phases — milling and asphalt paving. To see the streets scheduled to be milled and paved, please visit the Department of Public Works’ webpage or click HERE. These dates are subject to change or be postponed based on the weather and other factors.
