Sharing Sacred Spaces to host Stamford-Norwalk Solidarity Pledge Signing Event

Participating religious congregations of the Stamford-Norwalk team, as part of the Interreligious Communities Project (ICP) through Sharing Sacred Spaces, will be signing a solidarity pledge, committing themselves to the health and wholeness of their community through their continued interreligious work and dialogue. Member congregations pledge to promote one another’s safety and well-being, to work in solidarity with one another as a broader community, and to offer compassion and support to those who have experienced hate because of their religion. Signing the pledge commemorates the work that has been completed by the team thus far, and signals their commitment to the work and dialogue that will continue.

Last year when congregations in the city of New Haven took their solidarity pledge, officials from the Mayor’s Office and the Department of Homeland Security expressed how organizations like Sharing Sacred Spaces help their security measures in the city. Alvin D. Schwapp, Jr., the Director of the Connecticut Intelligence Center (CTIC), in a released statement, applauds Sharing Sacred Spaces’ “efforts to not only learn from one another, but also [to] pledge to being a force-multiplier against any threat to our religious institutions,” stating that such actions fit with the mission of CTIC to “ensure the safety of the State of Connecticut from hostile acts.”

The Stamford-Norwalk pledge celebrates and supports the work and commitment of the Stamford-Norwalk ICP team to promote the well-being and security of their community and surrounding neighborhoods. The ICP program will continue to expand to neighboring communities to further peacebuilding across Connecticut. The Stamford-Norwalk pledge signing event will include entertainment by award-winning vocal performer Dinah Fanai, interfaith prayer, and a keynote speech. The event will be held on Zoom from 3:00- 4:00 pm EDT. We welcome all people to join the event, as witnesses to the pledge signing and to the continuing efforts of building a more unified and whole community.

Participating congregations include: Guru Tegh Bahadur Foundation, Temple Beth El, Rose of Sharon Fellowship, Islamic Cultural Center of NY – Stamford, and Sathya Sai Baba Center of Stamford, CT.

The event is free. A suggested donation of $10, $30, or $50 to help cover the cost of the program is welcome. Please visit https://www.sharingsacredspaces.org/events to register to attend.
