Greenwich Library encourages children to expand their world this summer and read! Explore nature, culture, art, science, and diversity through the pages of a book with the Greenwich Library 2021 Summer Reading Program: Reading Colors Your World.
The program kicks off on June 1 and will run through August 14. Students in grades K-6 can sign up at online at the Library’s Summer Reading website and use the ReadSquared database to track their reading and earn prizes. All registrants at the Main Library will receive a cool pair of tie-dye sunglasses, just for signing up!
At the Main Branch, students will earn five raffle tickets for reaching milestones at 360 minutes and 720 minutes logged. When a student reaches the final reading goal of 1080 minutes (18 hours of reading), they receive a tie-dye drawstring bag and a free book of their choice. Earn extra raffle tickets by submitting book reviews on the website (up to 10), and by attending Greenwich Library children’s programs this summer—one bonus ticket each for attending a program in June, July or August. All online raffle tickets will be entered into a bonus raffle at the end of the summer for a chance to win one of six great bonus prizes.
Cos Cob Library is giving all students who register a cool shuttle pen and sidewalk chalk. Students who log 300 minutes, will get a Gopher Ice Cream Ticket; 600 minutes will receive 5 raffle tickets; 900 minutes get a $5 gift card for a local treat; and 1200 minutes get 5 raffle tickets and a new book. All online raffle tickets will be entered in a bonus raffle at the end of the program for a chance to win great prizes. Byram Shubert Library is giving away weekly prizes when you come in with your reading log.
Preschool children can join in the fun to earn prizes in the Read-to-Me program. Sign up with the Main Library at www.greenwichlibrary.org/children/summerreading and pick up The Day the Crayons Quit-themed goody bag with summer reading materials and a registration prize, or register with Cos Cob Library and receive a reusable bag and a kaleidoscope.
Fun online and outdoor programs are scheduled throughout the summer for all ages, including in-person Summer Storytime in the Courtyard in the Greenwich Library Baxter Courtyard beginning on June 14, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-10:30 a.m. Registration is required for these events. Visit the Library’s online calendar to register.
Mario “The Maker Magician” Marchese will join us to kick off the summer reading program on Saturday, June 12, at 11 a.m. Mario will perform an innovative virtual theater experience for all ages full of home-spun magic, DIY robotics, and punk rock slapstick. Children will be able to pick up supplies in advance for this summer series and the programs will be presented virtually via Zoom so you can attend wherever you are this summer!
