Greenwich High School senior Colin Speaker was one of 161 students across the nation named United States Presidential Scholars.
According to the program, “For over 55 years, this unique federal program has honored over 7,500 U.S. Presidential Scholars, who have demonstrated leadership, scholarship, and contribution to school and community. The work of the Commission on Presidential Scholars reaffirms, on behalf of the President, the Nation’s commitment to education…The Scholars represent excellence in education and the promise of greatness in young people…”
Greenwich High School Principal Mr. Ralph Mayo shared, “We are so proud of Colin for this incredible honor and recognition. He is a bright student, engaged member of our school community, and friend to many. This prestigious recognition for Colin joins his already long list of accomplishments, including being an Honor Student, being named a National Merit Scholar, and Stockholm Junior Water Prize recipient for his science research, in addition to many other accolades. We look forward to seeing his continued success.”
U.S. Presidential Scholar awardee Colin Speaker shared, “From Parkway to Western to Greenwich High, the Greenwich Public School system has provided me with an exceptional education, both in and out of the classroom. Teachers, administrators, coaches, friends, and family alike have inspired me to take advantage of incredible opportunities at every step along the way, and I share this special recognition with them. I look forward to continuing my studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where I will pursue a dual-degree from the Wharton School of Business and the School of Engineering through the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology.”

About the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields. Each year, up to 161 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.
