Paula Boynton Gaston passed away peacefully on April 11, 2021, in Greenwich, Ct. surrounded by her loving family.
Paula was born on August 7 1934 in Nashville, Tennessee to Dr. Paul L Boynton and Juanita Curry Boynton. In 1942, the family moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, where Dr. Boynton became President of Stephen F Austin University. As a child, she loved horses and playing the piano, and in high school and college went on to become the organist for the Presbyterian Church in Nacogdoches.
In a three-week period from December 1953 to January of 1954, Paula married her high-school sweetheart Don Gaston, graduated from college, and moved to Houston where she began her teaching career in the Houston school system. Don and Paula’s growing family saw Paula become a full-time homemaker, while Don’s business career soon brought his company to New York City and the family to Greenwich.
While Paula’s three children were the love of her life, she remained very active in the community, serving as President of the Big Sisters of New York, an organization that helps young girls in need, and, with two partners, opening her own business on Madison Avenue.
Paula and Don loved to travel, especially in Europe, and they maintained a home in London for many years. Inveterate walkers, (or closet endurance athletes) they calculated that their lifetime of daily 7 mile jaunts in the US and Europe took them around the world twice!
Paula is survived by her husband Don, their three children Paul Gaston (Dana), Donna Carpenter, and Patricia Burt (Neville), her eight grandchildren John Gaston (Katherine), Peter Gaston (Jordan), Sarah McCarty (Matt), George, Taylor and Timi Carpenter, Charlie Burt (Amy), and Harry Burt, as well as her three great-grandchildren Will, Colter and Wren Gaston.
A service of remembrance will be held at The Round Hill Community Church on Saturday, April 17 at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Round Hill Community Church https://www.roundhillcommunitychurch.org
