Amid cheers, long-time COVID-19 patient discharged after 146 days

Greenwich resident George Kelakos received a hero’s send-off from Greenwich Hospital staff on April 6 after being hospitalized for 146 days – the longest any COVID-19 patient has stayed at the hospital since the pandemic began more than a year ago. His wife Anchalee and their dog Sumo (wearing celebration beads!) were on hand to greet Kelakos as he boarded an ambulance to a rehabilitation center to continue his recovery. Staff from all corners of the organization lined the hallway holding balloons and “We will miss you” signs as Kelakos left his hospital room.
