The Greenwich Council, BSA, is proud to announce that Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo will again serve as Honorary Chair of the Council’s annual “Scouting for Food” drive on Saturday, March 13, 2021. This year, due to COVID-19, the Scouts will be hosting a Drive-Thru Drop-Off Scouting for Food Drive to benefit Neighbor to Neighbor.

From 8:30AM to 12:30PM on Saturday, March 13, food donations can be brought to one
of two drop-off locations:
 Greenwich Police Headquarters, 11 Bruce Place, Greenwich
 Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, 90 Harding Road, Old Greenwich

Scouting for Food tables will be manned by Scouts and volunteers at each location for
drop-off. Look for the Scout banners and kids in uniform! All participants are asked to
follow social distancing and wear a mask or face covering.

Residents are encouraged to drop-off non-perishable items, such as beans, black or red
– dried or canned; tuna, chili, canned fruit, Vienna sausage, boxed milk, pasta, pasta
sauce, peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal, and other cereals.  Please be sure to check that
the expiration date is still good. All donated food will be loaded by Scouts into vans
provided by Neighbor to Neighbor, who will transport the food to their food pantry
currently located at Arch Street Teen Center.

Scouts that participate in the service project or donate more than ten items of food, will
receive a limited edition Scouting For Food patch. The patch has generously been
underwritten by the Greenwich Police Department and the Greenwich Chapter of the
Knights of Columbus.

Greenwich Scouting is partnering with Greenwich’s Neighbor to Neighbor to help fill the
increasing need for food for families in the area, especially during non-holiday times,
such as March. A large percentage of the food provided by Neighbor to Neighbor feeds
children and their families at or below the poverty level.

Since its inception in 1912, Greenwich Scouting goals have remained the same,
emphasizing youth adventure, leadership, learning, outdoor exploration, and perhaps
most importantly, service. Scouts are encouraged to “Do a Good Turn Daily” As Lord Baden Powell, one of the founders of Scouting, said, “remember, it is not what you have
but what you give that brings happiness”.

If you can’t make it to one of the Scouting for Food drop-off locations on March 13, you
can still help by donating online: https://www.greenwichscouting.org/SFF2021
