The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum located at 295
West Ave., Norwalk, CT will feature a new exhibition titled, Socially Distant Art: Creativity in Lockdown. The exhibition will open on April 8 and run through Aug. 29, 2021. Admission will be included with the purchase of a guided tour ticket and available online. Artists from across the United States will include: Simone Agoussoye, Cindy Bernier, Carol Bouyoucos, Megan Chiango, Nat Connacher, Katharine Draper, Ellen Ehli, William Evertson, Rebeca Fuchs, Pat
Genova, Barry Guthertz, Gail Katz, Joanie Landau, Sophia Livecchi, Fruma Markowitz, Kathie Milligan, Lake Newton, Julie O’Connor, Michael O’Hara, Alan Richards, Paula Salerno, Charlotte Saunders, Robbii Wessen, and Gregg Ziebell.
Artist and Trustee Gail Ingis, who selected approximately 25 works from digital submissions, said: “The artists selected have a very interesting interpretation of social distancing, isolation, and the multi-faceted challenges they have experienced during the pandemic. Viewers will be drawn into their world and hopefully find it engaging and cathartic.”
Among the artists selected is Megan Chiango (Burlington, MA), who launched The Love Warrior Project during the pandemic. This is an ongoing series of portraits of mothers based on photos taken by their children, which Chiango then painted into portraits using a specific palette of colors. “The project was inspired by the changes in my role as a mother, caregiver, and provider that happened over the course of the pandemic,” said Chiango.
William Evertson, (Lyme, CT) who created Rota Fortunae in February and March of 2020, described his work, which was inspired by the pandemic, as “Partially a self-portrait of someone at risk due to preconditions and a reminder of the indiscriminate nature of a virus.”
Artist Kathie Milligan (Stamford, CT), who is exhibiting Forced Separation, received her MFA in painting in 2007 from the New York Studio School in Manhattan and earned her
undergraduate degree in studio art from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. Milligan is a multimedia artist who has shown her work internationally.
Also featured is Barry Guthertz (Norwalk, CT), who has been exhibiting his Fine Art photography throughout the Northeast for over 40 years. His award-winning work has been shown at The Brooklyn Museum and French Embassy, as well as in the General Electric and Union Carbide Corporate Galleries. He has had solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows throughout the Greater New York and Connecticut region, as well in Portland, Oregon on the West Coast.
Artist Carol Bouyoucos (Mt. Kisco, NY) said, “Contemplating nature is an antidote to an anxious and complex world, and our various experiences in it can reveal moments of shared
humanity and respect.” Ms. Bouyoucos, who will be showing her photographs at LMMM, received her BFA from the University of Michigan’s Stamps School of Art & Design, Ann
Arbor.
