The Greenwich Police Department responded to Greenwich High School on Thursday at approximately 12 p.m. after a student discovered a suspicious message written on a wall. The message had concerned the student because it made reference to a weapon, according to a statement from the GPD.
The student immediately contacted a teacher, and the authorities were called.
“The School Resource Officer and School Administrators rapidly assessed the situation and identified the responsible student before all the officers were on scene. At no time was the building placed in lockdown,” said GPD Public Information Officer, Capt. Mark Zuccerella.
Marked patrol units responded out of an abundance of caution, and at no time were students or staff in danger
“The Greenwich Police Department wants to thank the student for their quick actions in reporting this to the GHS staff. ‘See something, say something’ is not just a saying,” Zuccerella said. “The Greenwich Police Department and the Greenwich Public Schools have an established relationship based on trust and teamwork. The relationship that exists played a big part in this incident being resolved quickly and safely. The safety and security of the students in the Town of Greenwich always will be our greatest priority.”
The incident is being investigated by the Special Victim Section.
