For the Love of a Greater Good

For the Love of Birds, in support of Neighbor to Neighbor, is a month-long celebration of backyard bird feeding and the special access to nature it brings. As we educate about how and why we create food-source hot-spots for our feathered friends, we also acknowledge the dire need for food many families in our area face as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Closing the Town’s Achievement Gap Through “Greenwich Parents as Teachers”

Achievement gaps occur when one group of students outperforms another and the difference in average scores for the two groups is statistically significant. The Greenwich United Way developed GPAT to tackle this inequity specifically. For the last three years, the organization has been hard at work developing and implementing a program that aims to close this gap – Early Childhood Achievement Gap Solutions (ECAGS). It is a two-pronged approach consisting of a pre-natal to three years old portion – Greenwich Parents as Teachers (GPAT) – and the Pre-School Instructional Coaching (PSIC) prong for 4- and 5-year-olds. A high-quality, evidence-based program like GPAT makes it possible to overcome the achievement gap that students may begin their academics with.
