SoBol is a Summer Staple

By Julia Lucey

If you’re looking for a delicious summer treat or an ice cream alternative, SoBol Cos Cob (132 E Putnam Ave) is open from 7 am to 8 pm seven days a week serving a variety of frozen snacks, from blended bowls to smoothies! SoBol is on the Post Road, lodged between The Mumbai Times and the Cos Cob CVS. There is ample parking available in the back lot and entrances in both the back and front of the store. Inside, the shop’s decorations are reminiscent of a beachy cafe, so while travel to a tropical island isn’t an option for most these days, SoBol’s charming atmosphere and sweet treats can momentarily transport you from CT to your favorite faraway beach! Orders can now be placed in the store at the order station or can be placed very easily online at mysobol.com for a very simple pickup process.

SoBol is best known for their acai bowls — a blended base of acai, strawberry, banana, and a splash of soy milk. This bowl is typically topped with their homemade granola as well as strawberries, blueberries, banana, honey, and coconut. However, bowls aren’t limited to an acai blend base; other options include their green bowl (blended spinach, mango, banana, kale, and almond milk) and pitaya bowls (blended pitaya, strawberry, and banana). The green bowl is typically topped with granola, strawberries, blueberries, mango, coconut and honey, and the pitaya bowl with granola, mango, kiwi, pineapple, coconut, and honey. These toppings aren’t fixed, though; bowls are fully customizable and customers can add or takeaway toppings to cater to their own preferences.

SoBol also serves an array of refreshing smoothies comprised of fresh and healthy ingredients. Their acai smoothie includes acai, strawberry, banana, and acai juice. The “super green” smoothie is a mix of spinach, kale, mango, banana, agave, and almond milk, and the “very berry” smoothie blends together mixed berries, bananas, and apple juice. In addition, pitaya, mango, banana, and apple juice make up their “pitaya plus” smoothie, and the “SB” smoothie includes strawberry, banana, and a splash of soy milk. Customers may also choose between almond milk, coconut milk, acai juice, or apple juice as a different base for their smoothies, or add in any extras.

Extras to add in to either a smoothie or bowl include: whey protein, plant protein, peanut butter, almond butter, nutella, cookie butter, chocolate chips, mango, kiwi, pineapple, hemp seeds, blueberry, banana, strawberry, goji berries, cacao nibs, almonds, flax seeds, and chia seeds. Add-ins can be ordered in single, double or triple servings.

SoBol’s ingredients are wonderfully fresh; all blends are made daily and their granola is homemade and follows their own recipe. In addition, SoBol is very careful with allergies, especially with their granola, which can often be a tricky food for those with nut allergies. Their regular homemade granola recipe contains cashews and almonds, but they offer an equally as delicious nut free granola to top your bowl if need be! For extra safety there is a separate prep station for allergens, so nut-free orders can be fully enjoyed without worry. All nutrition information for each of their products is laid out on their website, mysobol.com, from calories to allergens to everything in between.

SoBol is still relatively new to Greenwich, but it has quickly become a staple for many here in town — it became so loved by Greenwich high schoolers that it’s acai bowls were a popular option in the GHS cafeteria throughout the 2019-2020 school year! SoBol is a perfect example that you don’t have to sacrifice flavor for healthier options, so be sure to swing by the next time you’re craving something sweet!
