D’Amico is GPS New Director of Curriculum K-8

Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones appointed Mr. Marc D’Amico as the Director of Curriculum for K-8 and Head of K- 5 Leadership for the GPS District, effective July 1, 2020. In this new role, he will lead the elementary principal team and be responsible for K-8 Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment; fostering innovative practices which represent a 21st century mindset to providing equity and access across all schools in making learning personal; building and managing a fiscally responsible budget focused on innovative teaching practices; providing oversight, coordination, consistency, and collaboration with the K-8 curriculum; and creating effective parent, teacher, and child communications and curriculum content, among other responsibilities.

“We are very excited for Marc to join our Central Office team. He brings with him a deep understanding of and appreciation for student-centered instruction, educational administration, parent and community involvement, and effective team-building. He has experience as a Classroom Teacher and Building Administrator, giving him a unique perspective on curriculum delivery and oversight. Marc is highly valued by his colleagues, and has been a leader among his peers for many years. He will be a very valued member of our Academic Team and we look forward to welcoming him to this position,” said Dr. Jones.

Mr. D’Amico shared, “I am excited to be joining the administrative team for the district. I am humbled by this appointment and thankful for the opportunity to bring my 25 years of experience as a building leader and classroom teacher to this role. I look forward to the journey ahead and I am incredibly grateful for the past 15 years that I have had the honor to serve the Glenville community. To my incredible staff, thank you for always putting the needs of our students first and for your willingness to be risk-takers and innovators in our endless pursuit of excellence. You will be greatly missed and I am forever appreciative of the trust you have had in me as a leader.”

Mr. D’Amico spent the last 15 years as Principal of Glenville School overseeing the wellbeing of each and every student on an academic, social, physical and emotional level through the effective implementation of meaningful and impactful pedagogical practices. As the leader for Glenville School he initiated a school improvement plan; created structural processes for data analytics; initiated before and after school supplemental programs; managed and led a team of staff and assistants in implementing strategies; and promoted a culture of collaboration and professional growth. Prior to this role, Mr. D’Amico served as the Assistant Principal for Julian Curtiss Magnet School of World Languages where he was responsible for staff recruitment, development, and retention; student discipline; supervision of all special education services; team building; fiscal management and more. Mr. D’Amico began his career in education as a Classroom Teacher for 4th, 5th and 6th grades at Lafayette Elementary School in Shelton, CT. During his seven years as a classroom teacher, Mr. D’Amico initiated the Nature’s Classroom experience, held the stipend position of “Technology Champion” charged with infusing technology into classroom instruction, conducted professional development for fellow staff members in the areas of Math and Science, and acted as building administrator in the absence of the Principal, in addition to many other responsibilities of a Classroom Teacher.

Mr. D’Amico holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Pace University, a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from Sacred Heart University, a Sixth Year Degree in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University, and was a Nationally Recognized PIMMS Fellow in Mathematics and Science through Wesleyan University.
