Lyons Farms Hold Online Food Drive for Neighborhood to Neighbor

Residents of East and West Lyon Farm in Greenwich organized and launched an on-line food drive on April 23 to benefit Neighbor to Neighbor of Greenwich. They worked with #GiveHealthy, an organizer of on-line food drives, that allows donors to select from a wish list of foods. “Our initial goal was to raise enough money to purchase 600 pounds of food,“ stated Jeanette Clonan, a resident involved in the campaign, “but the residents’ enthusiastic embrace of this program – enabling them to reach out while sheltering in place – has resulted in our surpassing our modest initial goal. As of today, we have purchased more than 3,600 pounds of healthy food for the clients served by Neighbor-to-Neighbor. That’s nearly two tons!” The two-week campaign concludes on May 6.

If you would like to purchase food from the Neighbor to Neighbor Grocery List, go to the Neighbor to Neighbor website, ntngreenwich.org, click on the #Givehealthy box, and you can select the foods from the wish list that you want to donate, put them in your cart, and pay with one click.

Neighbor to Neighbor is experiencing a rapidly soaring demand for groceries. They are now providing approximately 600 households with weekly grocery bags of 3 days of food for 3 meals for each member of the household. TAG, the Transportation Association of Greenwich, schedules and drives the grocery deliveries throughout town. Client families in need of assistance are referred by The Greenwich Department of Human Services.

Neighbor to Neighbor’s temporary location at Arch Street Teen Center is functioning well with plenty of space to organize inventory and pack bags of groceries for delivery. Volunteers and staff work together while practicing recommended CDC safety guidelines.  They are now using infrared thermometers before staff and volunteers can enter the building for an extra level of caution. No one from the public is permitted access to enter the facility.

The current pandemic, coupled with food and financial insecurity, makes it clear how critically important Neighbor’s work is to our Greenwich community.
