On April 20, the Representative Town Meeting voted to approve the Tax Deferment program as recommended by Greenwich Tax Collector Heather Smeriglio. The program set forth by Governor Lamont’s Executive Order 7S, would allow eligible taxpayers, businesses, nonprofits and residents a deferment by ninety (90) days of any taxes on real property, personal property, motor vehicle and municipal sewer charges and assessments from the day they are due.

This program will be offered across the board to all residents and taxpayers without the need to complete an application or provide documentation with the exception of landlords.

Landlords of either residential or commercial properties will need to apply for the program and provide documentation by July 1, 2020. The application and further explanation will be posted on the Towns website greenwichct.gov

The program does not affect taxpayers that pay through Escrow by their bank or mortgage company. The escrow agents are expected to remit tax payments according to the regular timetable.

Mrs. Smeriglio commented “I thank God that we were able to come together as a governmental body with a spirit of compassion and agree on this important decision. We need to do what we can for our residents who are struggling and facing financial difficulties during this health care crisis. I am grateful to the RTM, BET, Law and Finance Department for their collaborated efforts.”

Further information can be found on the towns website greenwichct.gov or by emailing the Tax Collectors office directly.
