Greenwich Library will host an interactive workshop on Jan. 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to help high school seniors and college students ages 18-23 kickstart their job or internship search. Titled “From College to Career,” the workshop will focus on helping students gain the essential skills they need to get their foot in the door.

Participants will leave with a working resume, a LinkedIn page, a professional headshot, tips on what to wear (and what not to wear) when interviewing, and networking skills they can use throughout college and beyond.

Local experts in career development will be on hand to lead various workshops. The morning will kick-off with a “Resume Writing 101” workshop led by Lauren Rosenkranz, an experienced college career counselor who specializes in helping students. Rosenkranz will also present the afternoon workshop: “Introduction to Networking and LinkedIn.” Participants will learn important key elements to building a solid LinkedIn profile, as well as lifelong networking strategies.

Professional stylist and career readiness specialist Maria Turkel, founder of Maria Turkel Wardrobe Styling, will be on hand to discuss “What to Wear When You Want to Get Hired.” Turkel built a successful career in the entertainment industry and was a former Wardrobe Supervisor on numerous TV shows, including Friends. She currently assists in the Center for Career Development at Norwalk Community College focusing on interview preparation. She will offer clear instructions for how to appear polished and presentable in various interview circumstances.

Professional photographer Asher Almonacy from La Difference Event Photography will take high-quality headshots suitable for LinkedIn profiles.

A registration packet with info on what to wear for the headshot and what to bring to prepare a resume will be sent to everyone who signs up in advance. Participants will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win gift certificates to Amazon and Garden Catering.

This program will take place in The Flinn Gallery and is co-sponsored by the Greenwich Alliance for Education and Greenwich Library. Registration required through the Library’s online calendar at greenwichlibrary.org
