First Church Welcomes New Minister

The Rev. Leo W. Curry

The First Church of Round Hill (FCRH) welcomes The Rev. Leo W. Curry as its new Pastor. Rev. Curry comes to FCRH after serving 32 years as Pastor at the Fordham United Methodist Church in the Bronx. Rev. Curry entered ordained ministry after a successful career teaching French, Spanish and English as a Second Language. He graduated from Howard University with undergraduate and graduate degrees in Romance Languages and Literature. He attended seminary at New York Theological Seminary where he distinguished himself as the recipient of the President’s Award for Outstanding Graduating Senior. Rev. Curry is descended from The Rev. Elijah J. Curry, Sr., his paternal grandfather, who was ordained in 1892. Rev. Curry, Sr. had seven sons, five of whom became Methodist pastors. He also had three daughters, two of whom married Methodist pastors.

Rev. Curry has held many leadership positions in the Metropolitan District and the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was Secretary of the NYAC from 1989 to 2004. He served as the Chair of the District Superintendencey Committee; Chair of the Mission and Outreach and Vice President of the United Methodist City Society; a member of the Board of the City Society; and a certified mentor for clergy candidates. He is also a contributor to the book Black United Methodists Preach, edited by Dr. Gennifer Brooks of Garrett Evengelical Theological Seminary.

Rev. Curry’s philosophy is that the church is first and foremost a teaching institution which teaches the content of the Christian faith aimed at the transformation of human character and the world. Rev. Curry firmly believes in an inclusive church where all of God’s children are welcome.

The First Church of Round Hill, 464 Round Hill Rd., welcomes worshipers of every religion. Services are Sundays at 10 a.m.
